The Chevy Cavalier is a super car to own. The interior materials are very durable, and with regular maintenance the interior looks in prime condition even after 14 years. I have 116,000 miles on the car and the engine and transmission have never given me any trouble. The mechanics who have done work on it always mention that it is still in good shape. I have never had any electronic problems with any of the components.
Story
I used my Cavalier to deliver papers every day for 5 years and it never let me down. I remember one winter we had 10 inches of snow to drive through. On my route was a steep hill with a winding road to the top. I saw a smaller car trying to go up the hill, but slid back down after getting halfway up. I decided to try. I got a running start at the bottom, and with the power of the car and a set... (more)
Pros
The best feature of the Chevy Cavalier is its durability - it has stood up to 14 Midwest winters and never let me down. The front wheel drive is exceptionally good in the snow, and even on ice the car is very manageable. After 14 years there is minimal rust. The Cavalier is very easy to maintain, even for a DIY owner. The components are easily removed and replaced. The frame and sub-frame are holding up well, neither have buckled, even after the occasional meeting with a curb. The interior is very roomy. After removing the front passenger seat and putting the back seat in the down position... (more)
Cons
The only thing that is a negative would be the placement of the oil filter. For something that is a regularly maintained component, the position of the filter behind the passenger front tire and behind the steering gear is difficult to get to.

I've been using this Chevy Cavalier for about five years, and in that time I've driven across the country. I moved away from my parents shortly after acquiring the vehicle, and it ran smoothly without any issues the entire time. Since then, I've driven to and from work nearly every day. The car looks a little worn down, but despite its looks it doesn't run badly and never has issues starting up, even after long winters without use in the northern US. Despite this, I've had issues with the engine running too hot, even after adding coolant. I need to take it to a mechanic and figure out exactly what's up with it there. But despite this, I can manage short trips around town just fine for the time being.
Story
I remember driving the first time in extremely thick snowy conditions. I come from the south, originally, where snow was scarce, and so does this vehicle. So I was a little nervous to say the least when there was a giant blanket of snow covering the car before driving. So I cleaned it up and started going to work, and it didn't have any issues I was afraid it might have.
Pros
The best things about the vehicle are definitely the reliability and gas efficiency. I've never had the car randomly die on me on the highway unlike some other vehicles I've owned, and it feels like ages between each trip to the gas station.
Cons
The engine running too hot, for one thing. I'm not sure if it's a fault with the engine or a fault with the meter reading it, and I'm not a car expert so I'm not sure what else could cause this. I've occasionally had issues with the taillights and blinkers dying despite bulbs being new as well. But they've been easy and quick to fix.

Very helpful salespeople when I was there. I know they have had some problems in the past, but they were fine for me. We were able to haggle in a friendly way as well as keep everything polite. They answered all my questions since I was only a high school senior. I have had my car now for 8 years.
