Family SUV that doesn't work for a family.
I have a love/hate relationship with my SUV. The X5 is so fun to drive and has been a reliable vehicle for us. I find the exterior to be attractive and the inside comfortable. The heated seats are a true luxury in Chicago winters. I specifically purchased this vehicle after my sister was in an accident with hers. She was rear ended while sitting at a red light with the other driver going 45 MPH. Her family walked away with nothing more than a few bruises. Safety is the most important factor in a vehicle purchase, and I found the X5 to exceed my expectations. My problems have been with the cargo room. Since purchasing the car, we have added two children. With children comes their large and bulky things, and sadly, there is just not just not enough room. With only the stroller in the back, I have little room for groceries. Packing the car for a weekend away is similar to playing Tetris. The X5 would be perfect for a family with older children. Once they are slightly older, and you don't have to take the entire house with you, the cargo room could be sufficient. As much as I love this car, it just doesn't fit where my family is currently at. We will be leasing something different when our lease is up.

An SUV that feels like a sports car
It is not too often that you get something completely unexpected out of a car. When I bought this SUV in 2015, I was looking for a weekend car that would take my wife and I on camping trips, snowboarding and overall outdoor adventures. What I found was not only all that, but a soul of a sports car trapped in an SUV body. The X5 50i has a super strong v8 engine that pulls all the way to the red line. It sounds incredible too, which makes it fun to drive on a windy mountain road. It has tons of grip, so you can push it with confidence. The interior is top notch, and materials are soft-touch and cover almost all surfaces. The ride is very smooth when the suspension is in comfort mode. It rides like a minivan when you need it to, but you can put it in Sport+ when you want the fun, feeling every bump in the road. It's a total machine, extremely versatile and fun to drive, as all BMW's should be! One of the favorite cars I have owned.
