All around great vehicle for a small family.
I spent a massive amount of research on cars before settling on the Kia Sportage and owning it for 3 years, I absolutely made the right choice. For context, at the time I purchased the car, my family consisted of myself and my husband. My husband is 6'6 which means many cars get ruled out from head room and leg room. Despite the Sportage being a "crossover"/ smaller SUV, it has ample space. It has all the perks of a car without any of the cons of a SUV.

Great car for the year
I bought this car in 2016 and have had no real issues with it since I bought it. The car drives extremely smooth and the shocks (which have not been replaced as far as I know) have held up very well. I've added probably 15 thousand miles since I purchased it and have had no significant maintenance issues. For a compact SUV, it has also been really efficient in moving a lot of things with the space in the trunk. Since I've gotten it, I've been able to put in (at different times) a twin mattress, a new grill, a large recycling can, and a medium-sized arm chair with foot rest.

Great crossover vehicle with good storage and gas mileage
I went into the Kia Sportage from a car and worried about the gas mileage, but there was no need to worry. The Kia Sportage retained nearly the same gas mileage as my Ford Fusion. Along with good gas mileage, the Kia Sportage afforded me a spacious trunk with a 40/60 fold down flat back seats that could haul items in many configurations such as two passengers and several golf bags, loads of camping gear. Another selling point was the sleek look that continues to hold its look well among younger generation vehicles, my Kia Sportage design doesn't stick out and look old. With airbags all around, I originally chose the Kia Sportage for it's 5 star safety rating. I'm handing this vehicle down to my child later this year as a first vehicle and feel he will be very safe with this as his first vehicle. My EX version has a panoramic roof with the front that slides open to let in some fresh air and sunshine and all leather seats that are a must for parents with young boys who play sports. My two favorite features are the GPS that has saved me many times from being lost and the sound system. I'm able to make phone calls by voice activation, blue tooth my favorite play list and speakers that have lasted well over the years with a music loving teenager. I have two cons with this vehicle but neither or even both together would prevent me from buying this vehicle again. I wouldn't hesitate! One is that there are some blind spots on the sides of the vehicle, but once aware I've always been careful to look twice before switching lanes and do not have issues. The other con is that the top luggage rails did not fare as well as the paint job and has peeled. It's the only part of the vehicle that isn't still shiny, but thankfully it's not a large part on the vehicle and doesn't stick out. The 2012 Kia Sportage EX has been a reliable, useful, and sporty vehicle to drive and at a fraction of the cost for other similar cross over vehicles I've not regretted its purchase.
