Everything I could need!
This vehicle is large enough to carry me, my daughter, and my service dog along with anyone else who wants to come along. The only thing I wish was that it got better gas mileage. Those trips to Disney are comfortable, but expensive. I have over 100,000 miles on the car and the most money I have spent on it was $300 for a new alternator. Not bad, I believe.

Reliable, easy to drive
For an SUV I've had for almost 18 years with only 80,000 miles on the clock, this Mercury Mountaineer has held up incredibly well. The interior of the car was state-of-the-art in the late 1990s and still holds up well to this day. The 6 CD changer is great for the long car trips I go on with my family. The driver's seat is incredibly comfortable, and the car handles well both in town and out on the open road. For an older SUV, the car gets decent gas mileage, sometimes topping 25 MPG in nicer weather on the highway. This can be attributed to keeping up on the car's maintenance. The V8 engine has a lot of kick and accelerates well when needed. This car has had very few problems for a vehicle of its age and has only needed new batteries twice and new tires once. In addition, this SUV can also double as a moving van. With the back seat folded down, I was able to fit an entire living room's worth of chairs and side tables inside! The Mountaineer is also a great kid-mover too, going between after school activities, this SUV gets around with ease.

Nice sized SUV but costly repairs
What initially attracted me to this vehicle was it body style, size and price. I always wanted a mid-sized SUV that could be customized. This SUV came with window rain guards and tinted rear windows, chrome-like grill, alloy wheels, running board and roof rack. As far as space it has plenty of room and a great purchase price. This SUV did not let me down it has a very roomy interior no crammed seating, roomy cabin, wonderful trunk space with 3rd row folded down and privacy shade. Best thing of all is I bought this at an unbeatable price. The leather seats are comfortable and the third row seating is a bonus. The Mountaineer is suitable for vacations or long drives with no discomfort. One of the best features about this vehicle is its backup notification. A loud beeping noise is emitted when you put the vehicle in reverse drive and get too close to an object. The closer you are to an object the louder the beep gets. Also, the mirror defrost feature is awesome and is very useful during the cold winter months. The Mountaineer has plenty of overhead compartments for sunglasses and garage opener and interior auto dimming dome light. Music lovers will enjoy the speaker system in the SUV the speakers are plentiful and are loud and clear. Another great feature of the Mountaineer is the touch adjustable pedals and driver seat. The built in pouches on the back of the driver and passenger seats are perfect for kids they can easily place their belongings in there. The Mountaineer has plenty of Auxiliary power outlets which is perfect for charging cell phones or powering other objects. As far as the bad aspects of the Mountaineer in my two years of ownership I have noticed repair issues that are beginning to occur in my SUV. Upon further investigation I have noticed that several other Mountaineer owners have been experiencing similar issues. The rear lift gate cracks easily in this model. A mechanic told me that the ball joints are known to go bad quickly and the SUV eats tires. Also, the actuator or blend door motor is known to go out on this SUV just to name a few cons to purchasing this vehicle. One more thing the gas mileage is terrible.
