The car has performed well since I bought it. Only one somewhat major issue that was caught by a mechanic I've trusted. I was looking for a comfortable car because we take road trips very often and I also wanted something that handled well in bad weather. My previous car was terrible in snow and rain. This car does great in bad weather. I feel confident driving and I like being higher up as well. It makes me feel safe driving this car.
Story
We moved from DC to Florida in this car with our cat and it was the longest ride ever. The car did great, but we could not have been more stressful dealing with a cat on a 15 hour drive. The car easily pulled a large trailer for 800 miles, but that cat made the whole thing a nightmare.
Pros
I really liked how comfortable this car is. It is a relatively basic interior, but very comfortable seats. Also have a third row has been more useful than I expected it to be. It handles really well in bad weather, which was also very important to me. I like the color we got as I thought it was a unique color.
Cons
Some of the interior wore our a little more quickly than I expected, but not a lot. I wish it had better gas mileage, as we average about 22 miles per gallon. There are also some bad blind spot that I had to get used to. I almost pulled out in front of someone twice because of the blind spot.

The Explorer, overall, is a pretty mediocre vehicle. It does have quite a bit of seating, and even for a tall person like me, it seats very comfortably. I really enjoy driving it around, because even though it is an older vehicle, it still has the looks of a newer one. I wish that the gas mileage were better however.
Story
I really enjoyed driving the Explorer on the beach at Corolla beach in the outer banks.
Pros
I really enjoy the auto 4x4 in the car. It's nice because you never have to put in in four-wheel drive when the weather gets bad because it will do it for you. I also really like the space both in the seats and in the trunk. It also has a larger engine, so it can pull trailers, motorcycles or anything you really need it to.
Cons
I would have to say the biggest con about the Explorer would have to be the transmission. Everyone I've ever talked to that owns one or used to has had to replace it. They seem to go out around 100,000 miles, and they are not cheap or convenient to replace. The next biggest thing would be the gas mileage. I consistently get around 16mpg, which is not very good for a vehicle of its size or engine. It's also not terrible but unless you have a family or a necessity for a vehicle of that size. I would invest in something else.
