This car is truly something special. When we first bought it, people would stop us in public to ask questions about it. Now I see them all over town, seems I'm not the only one for an eye for reliability. We use the car mostly to get my grandfather to and from dialysis 3 times a week, and the gas mileage makes it very doable. Have I mentioned how reliable this thing is? You can drop what your doing and make a 2 1/2 hour drive and not even worry about getting it checked out first. It's got 5 seats, two captains chairs up front and a bench seat in the back with a middle buckle. The seats fold forward so you can have more room for taking home groceries, etc. We use it to fit the walker/wheelchair in the back of the car when needed. The style of the car is modern and sleek, without looking... (more)
Story
A lady stopped me in a parking lot to question how I liked the vehicle. After heaping praise on it to her, a few months later she was driving one of her own.
Pros
Gas mileage, height of car for ease of getting in and out, stock sound system, ECO mode, the heater works so well as does the A/C, from burning hot to ice cold. I can go on and on singing the praises of the Kia Soul.
Cons
Blind spots. The windows are engineered poorly on the 2010 model leaving the back left and right huge blind spots. This has been fixed with newer models, just by making the back window wider and wrap around the sides a bit. Also, the valve stems in the tires got recalled for my model and the tires slowly leak air, all I have to do is make an appt at the dealership to have it fixed for free, but we haven't made time to do so yet.

2014 Kia Soul - Excellent hatchback, with room to spare!

I recently bought a 2014 Kia Soul from a local dealer and I went in worried that by purchasing a car that wasn't as expensive I would suffer for it in quality. However this little car is big on the inside, has a great deal of power under the hood and has a lot of features for a very reasonable price. There are both pros and cons for the car (the cons I can mostly ignore, because they are small and can be fixed or avoided), but overall I think it was the right choice for me and for the right price; it allowed me to upgrade from my worn out 2002 Ford Explorer that was hitting the 300,000 miles mark... so that's always a plus.
Story
A few months after I purchased the car I moved a few towns over and a love seat wouldn't fit in the U-Haul I bought since it was packed up tight. So after a bit of deliberating my friend and I decided to shove it into my car. Fitting a love seat into the back of the Kia Soul was quite an adventure... by the time it was over (and the rear hatch closed around the end of the love seat) my best fr... (more)
Pros
It's very roomy on the inside. It looks smaller than it actually is from the outside, but from inside each seat has room to move about without jostling into other passengers. I like the fact that even though it's only a 4 cylinder it has lots of power to get me going very quickly. And in the case of my first trip out of town, it got me up a 7% grade mountain without a lot of the drag that many cars have. The price is definitely a plus; it's right in between economy and mid-sized, making it right in my budget without sacrificing on power, roominess, or convenience.
Cons
One of the two downsides to this car is that it's very lightweight so driving it in snow with snow-tires just isn't all that great. I took it up to the snow for a Christmas tree search adventure and though we got from point A to point B, I wasn't as confident in the way it drove as I would have liked it to be. The second con for the car is that the 2014 model doesn't have a spare tire... which is kind of ridiculous. I just assumed it had one, but when I had a flat due to driving over a nail I went to look for one with no luck. After a bit of research and verifying it with my dealer, it cam... (more)

Buying a car from Carmax is more like regular shopping (for any merchandise) than like shopping for a car and I love that. Car shopping is something I dread but my experience buying a car at Carmax relatively painless. The available cars are listed on their website and I was able to do my research prior to going there; all the cars I was interested in were there, although I recommend you go early in the day to be sure this is the case; I test drove the cars and made my decision. Everyone that works there is welcoming and helpful. I didn't feel pushed or misled at all.
