I bought this car because it is a hatchback with 60/40 seats. I needed the option of using it as a pure 5 seater family car, plus be able to load and carry items from the hardware store, on extended vacations, etc. I only have one child at home, so only need one seat in the back. The car has been EXCELLENT for both those needs. I can easily fit 2x4's (if I fold down the front passenger seat) and close the hatch. The car drives well and is quite easy to handle. Road noise is present but by far not the noisiest car I have owned. The child safety restraint systems were quite easy to access and to use. It has needed no major repairs, only maintenance and a few smaller things. I can't think of much that I dislike about this car.
Story
A four day road trip with my son. We didn't want to eat out much so packed two ice-chests and all gear necessary for the beach, hiking, fog, surf and sand. The car easily accommodated all of our gear. It drove great.
Pros
60/40 Folding rear seats, ability to fold front passenger seat down to store long items. Great highway gas mileage Easy to access child restraint systems Many "storage" cubbies and compartments Tilt steering wheel Delay windshield wipers Low cost maintenance Four doors Hatchback
Cons
The dash lights are all red. Don't like red. Not that great city gas mileage

I got my Matrix used as a 25th birthday present to myself, and I'm as happy with it today as I was 12 years ago. Hoping to have it for another five–seven years! (Let's get to 20, baby!) It's spacious, comfortable, and reliable, and maintenance and repairs have been easy to keep up with.
Story
One time when I was camping in Florida, my tent failed in a rainstorm, and so I simply moved into the car. With the back seats down, there's a smooth flat-bed back there, just the right size for sleeping!
Pros
Toyota has a reputation for quality and longevity, and my Matrix does not disappoint. There is so much space inside; I moved a whole twin mattress set in it once along with extra boxes and furniture! There's lots of window space for increased visibility of the road. Dashboard controls are exactly in the right place for someone my size (average). Interior upholstery/ceiling/floors have held up so well. Engine components last extra-long as well -- I didn't have to replace the transmission until 160,000 miles -- and it's the only major repair this car has ever needed. The whole vehicle is set... (more)
Cons
The plastic door handles are flimsy, and I did have to replace them after they broke in the heat. Also, there's no hope keeping hubcaps from falling off (a common problem with Matrixes.).

The entire experience was stress free. Unlike other dealerships I've worked with, they didn't try to get me into the car and ask "WHAT CAN I DO TO GET YOU TO BUY THE CAR TODAY". They let me make my own decision.

When I first arrived they seemed to busy for my time. It took about 5 mins before some one came up to me. They did like very busy. I told them what I wanted and they tried hard to get me what I wanted. I told them I was price shipping and they gave me no trouble. When I weren't back the next time, they west really nice and they even have me water.
