Overall, I am very pleased with my Oldsmobile Aurora. Most of my complaints about the vehicle stem from the fact that it's very old and has slowly started to deteriorate in quality. The previous owner wasn't especially careful with it, and there were problems that eventually started to crop up. If I were given the opportunity to buy another variant of this vehicle that had a better ownership history or was slightly newer, I would definitely consider purchasing it again.
Story
This is more memorable than fun, but there was one time when I was going to a Whole Foods store and I got back in my car. It refused to start. Most people would probably panic in this situation (admittedly I was flustered), but instead, I decided to try to remain calm and wait. My car had never failed me before, so it wasn't likely to now. Sure enough, after five minutes or so, I tried to star... (more)
Pros
It came with a lot of useful gadgets and features like a HUD display for fuel economy, oil life and reporting various problems occurring with the vehicle (tire pressure, coolant levels, etc.). What stands out the most with this vehicle is that it has been insanely reliable despite its advanced age. I purchased it when it was approximately 11 years old and in the six years that I've owned it I can say that it has only ever truly failed me once or twice.
Cons
The battery is in a very awkward spot to reach, which makes maintenance more difficult. Some of the more unnecessary parts were not particularly high quality and broke easier than expected (cup holders, etc.).

There is a reason Oldsmobile is no longer in production. The 2001 Aurora, although a relatively comfortable granny car on the inside and moderately streamlined on the outside, has a lot of quirks. The heater hose is spliced. The battery is under the passenger-side back seat. The digital computer readout on the dash will not reset after a service. The car is not comfortable for a very tall (6'4") person.
Story
It was great being able to pay cash since it was so cheap. We got stung by a small-scale local dealer who was more interested in turning a sale than in being honest. I recommend shopping for vehicles where they are thoroughly inspected and certified.
Pros
The 2001 Aurora is relatively comfortable inside. The heated seats are great for winter in a northern climate. The fuel economy is okay for a full-sized car. The exterior shape is sleek -- not at all a boxy granny car look.
Cons
The heater hose is spliced. The battery is under the passenger-side back seat. The digital computer readout on the dash will not reset after a service. The car is not comfortable for a very tall (6'4") person. The brakes keep going bad very quickly. The car does not stay in alignment very well. This vehicle is not trustworthy for long-distance travel.
