I absolutely love my Oldsmobile Silhouette GL extended mini van. I first purchased one 4 years ago and then when I found another on the internet I purchased another. Both were not new but both had been well taken care of. I find that regular maintenance is easy to stay on top of because of the popularity of the vehicle. Parts (when necessary) are easy to find on the secondary market. Every mechanic I've taken them to have been impressed with how little they have seen of these vehicles in their shops. The interior material is quite sturdy, both vehicles have no rips or tears in the upholstery. We do not baby these vans, they are our full time commuters and we both agree, we cannot think of anything we don't like about them.
Story
Always fun to drive this car to camping.
Pros
Very good engine. Great gas mileage. Seats fold down for extra storage. On board air compressor to refill tires if necessary. Excellent stereo system.
Cons
The only negative feature I can think of is the gas gauge has gone out on both of them. And the ground clearance is a bit low.

This van was originally my mother's, then my brothers, and then mine. It was spacious, for its size and the year it was made, had decent gas mileage -- over 20 on the highway. We never had many mechanical problems, in fact, no major ones that I can think of. It made over 5 cross-country road trips (from Texas out to the West Coast twice and the East Coast 3 times), in addition to its use for hauling, moving, and transporting kids.
Story
My friends and I took a number of long road trips in this van. We would typically pile 5 people in it, two in the front, two in the middle, and someone could stretch out and sleep in the back. These road trips -- ranging from California, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah, to Tennessee, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York -- are some of my fondest college memories. Wd would pack... (more)
Pros
It was reliable, pretty (as pretty as a van can be), reasonable gas mileage (for a van). The automatic sliding doors were great, especially when carrying heavy things. You could pull both the middle (captain) seats and the back row of seats out, which gave plenty of room if you wanted to haul things. It had seat warmers for the driver and front passenger, as well as a DVD player for those long road trips.
Cons
When the seat warmer and automatic seat adjustment motor went out on the front passenger seat, it was terribly expensive to fix. Though the DVD player was a great amenity, the quality (being from the early 2000s) was nothing to write home about.
