Providence, RI Driving Tips
Try to avoid the maze of one way streets. In the heart of the city every street seems to be a one way. If you are unfamiliar with the area it can be confusing. You can get on the wrong street and add a substantial about of time to your trip. The high way is a great alternative though. It cuts through the city and there is little traffic.
Providence, RI Buying Tips
Buy a small car. Smaller cars will have a much easier time finding a parking spot. Also the smaller car can handle the small , old historic streets of the city. They are usually one ways but since people park on the side of the roads they can be tight. Craigslist is a good way to find cars around providence. Even though the craigslist killer was from the area, buying cars is relatively safe. I find the dealers around here to be very untrustworthy. They are just out to make a buck. Local people selling their cars will be more honest about the condition. Also you can save money.
Favorite driving memory
Once I was driving through downtown providence and I saw something cool. It was a giant statue of a bug. The bug was for some pest control company. Overall I thought that it was a very successful advertisement because it caught my attention. The bug was on top of a building right on the side of the highway. It was very large, probably bigger then a large SUV. It was blue and it had on large yellow sunglasses. Though I did not have a pest issue at the time, if I did, I would have contacted the company.
Favorite road
Elm street. This street goes right through the heart of the city. There is always so much life there. People are always walking around. A lot of cultural events take place there. I like to drive down and just look at the people. I can tell a lot about who they are and what they do just by watching how they interact with others around them. In the summer, the street is lined with food trucks. I like to randomly pick a different one each time to try out. There is one portion of the road that is considered to be the theater district. There is a large auditorium where plays are performed.

Providence, RI Driving Tips
I would unfortunately have to advise you to be fairly aggressive. People don't take driving lightly around here. The stereotypes are true that people can be jerks while driving and don't really let you catch a break.
Providence, RI Buying Tips
Honestly, most people I know buy cars used from random people, because we don't have a lot of money. But there are some major dealers that I would go to in Johnston if I had money for it. I wouldn't necessarily trust craigslist around here. It's better to go through a friend of a friend or something of that nature.
Favorite driving memory
I don't know that I have a specific driving highlight, but I enjoy when people are actually polite. It isn't that common around here so when someone lets you out of a street when they see that you're struggling instead of shooting you a death glare for daring to get in their way, that's something that tends to make my day.
Favorite road
Greenville Avenue. Greenville Avenue is not in Providence, it is in nearby Johnston/Smithfield. This was simply the first road that came to mind when thinking of the type of road that I enjoy driving on. It's long and vaguely scenic. Nothing major, but has nice houses and trees. But at the same time it's a wide enough, lined, paved road and not a twisty back road through the woods that I would be scared to personally drive on. I can drive relatively fast for the most part. Also, it brings me places I like.
