Subaru Forester Owner Ratings & Reviews

2000 Subaru Forester - Tough like me.
I just love my car. I live in the Northeast. It has no rust! And most Subies do. I almost hit the 200,000 miles mark. I got it at 75,000. Since I wasn't the first owner, it came with all kinds of problems. The engine even blew up once. But I love it so much, I've kept it. I do most of my own maintenance (sometimes with assistance of friends), and it's pretty easy to work on. I love how it looks. Since it's all-wheel drive, I feel pretty safe in the winter. That means if I drive for the conditions, I feel I will arrive safely at my destination including someone in another car not hitting me or something like that.
Story
We have a camp by the river with a 1/4 mile dirt driveway. I just love driving through it in my Subaru. It is so fun!!! And when it's wet, you get to drift a little. I just love my car. Especially where I live. There are lots of opportunities to go off road.
Pros
My favorite feature is when you fold the seats down...it becomes a magic car. It can hold so much! I have moved and helped friends move because I have the magic car. It truly is amazing. This is the reason I haven't gotten another car. I love how much it can carry! Another favorite feature is the all-wheel drive. It snows a lot here. And I love to go off road, so that helps a lot. Cruise Control -- love it!
Cons
Clunky transmission. Gas pedal just a drop to right, so I have to turn my foot which aggravates my knee and hip on long trips. The engine blew up once. Had lots of brake issues for a while, but they seem to finally be fixed. Sound system sucks. No moon/sun roof (my last Subaru had one). No heated seats (My last Subaru had them).
2011 Subaru Forester - Barely OK. I would not recommend.
In the six years we've had this car, we have had considerable issues with it. Subaru seems to have gone down in quality with this model of Forester, which we were disappointed to find. First of all, this model has an issue where it can take an extremely long time for the car to start...to the point where it sounds like it is going to stall out or not start at all. One has to turn the key slowly and in a specific way in order to avoid this. Subaru has not been pleasant to deal with about this issue either, and three different Subaru dealers we've taken the car to have tried to rip us off. One place finally fixed the issue for us. It turns out, it was that the car was simply idling too high and was an extremely easy fix. It should not have taken all that hassle to fix that problem. The c... (more)
Story
Honestly, I don't think I really have any fun memories in this car. It's mainly been used for utilitarian purposes (driving to work, taking kids to school, etc.).
Pros
Runs fine now that a startup issue has been fixed. Components and dipsticks are easy to access under hood.
Cons
Awful customer service from Subaru. Startup and heat shield issues that it took way more hassle to fix than it should have. Poor interior comfort, insulation, and quality. Awful audio system quality. Disconcerting echo of noise inside car.

2015 Subaru Forester - Bertera Subaru Of West Springfield
My experience was good because the sales people weren't pushy by any means, they didn't try swindling me into buying something I didn't like or couldn't afford. The purchasing process went smoothly and my car was ready to be picked up within a day. I told them exactly what I wanted and they delivered. I absolutely love my new Subaru.
