2009 Subaru Forester - Will Own a Subaru From Now On!
After owning a Forester, I can't imagine ever being without one. Features most important to me in a car: safety, practicality, versatility, and comfort. The Forester delivers on all counts. While I wouldn't recommend any serious off-roading in it, it can handle just about anything else confidently, including Michigan's snow and ice. It also has great driver visibility because of the way the pillars are designed. It's versatile as well: you can carry 5 adults comfortably along with some cargo in the rear, or you can fold the rear seats down for tons of cargo space. There's even room for the dog! Overall, I love this car. It's been very reliable.
Story
Went on a road trip with some friends from Oklahoma to Las Vegas and San Diego, CA last year in the Subaru and had a blast!
Pros
*Safety (it was a top safety pick of the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety).
*Practicality (decent gas mileage, AWD, good ground clearance)
*Versatility (daily commute/vacation; haul people/gear)
*Comfort (roomy interior, comfortable seats, etc.)
*Has been very reliable so far.
Cons
*Gas mileage is decent for a vehicle in its class, however, it could be better, and has been improved in more recent models.
*Some plastics in the interior. I don't mind (they're easy to clean) but some people think they look cheap.
*Cabin noise - a little more road noise creeps in than in some vehicles.
*Towing capacity with the optional towing package is very limited.
2009 Subaru Forester - Great small SUV
I love the storage space in this vehicle as well as the roof racks for easy transport. The size of the Forester is just right - not too big and not too small. I like the height above the road and how it handles in general. The all-wheel drive is a great feature in the winter. It makes it much easier to drive in the snow and rain. The heated seats are a bonus as well! For several years before I purchased the Forester, I had really considered it my dream vehicle. Once I owned one, it didn't disappoint.
Story
We took a great road trip last summer from Michigan to Maine with our family of four. The Subaru Forester was a great vehicle for this trip with plenty of room for our bags, toys, food, and so forth.
Pros
We typically have our kids riding in a couple of car seats, a dog, and often luggage in the car, and it all fits easily. There is just quite a lot of space in the Forester, yet it isn't a hard car to maneuver. It really is the best of both worlds in terms of size. The large windows make for easy visibility, the seats are comfortable, and the option to fold down the back seats makes the space very flexible.
Cons
The cabin is a bit noisy when you are on the highway, but the positive features more than make up for that fault. I wish that it got better gas mileage, and that is a feature I hope to find when I purchase a newer vehicle.
