2011 BMW 1 Series - I love the car.
I love the BMW inline 6 on the 08-13 128i's for its reliability. It is one strong-running engine to this day and performs very well. The gas mileage is very good also for its six cylinders. It has never gave me any major issues because I do keep it maintained pretty well.
Story
I drifted a ramp turn on the highway, which was really fun. A cop saw me do it and pulled me over. Ironically, he had a modified 135i, which is the turbo version of my car. He admired my passion for the car and let me go with a warning.
Pros
The body style and the interior of the car is very aesthetic to me. I have the M Line version, so it includes the sporty wheels and a whole bunch of other things like a lip kit for the bumpers. It's a rather small car and also light, so with the inline 6, this thing can move pretty fast. The gas mileage is great on the highway. RWD is really fun on the corners, with the dynamics of a BMW. These cars also hold their value pretty well.
Cons
The water pump and thermostat on this generation tends to go out every 50k or so if the car isn't taken car of because it is electric. The cost and maintenance of the vehicle can be pricey, so taking it to a private mechanic would save you a lot of money in the long run.
2011 BMW 1 Series - German muscle, pocket rocket
The car is so much fun! I love small, compact cars and this fits the bill. It's super easy and fun to thread through traffic. It has the same engine as in larger cars; it's super powerful and smooth. The car is very stylish with a very simple yet high quality, tasteful interior.
Story
I love taking it on road trips to LA and Las Vegas, blasting along the freeway at 100mph+ and the car is barely breaking a sweat. Give it a wash upon arrival and it fits in perfectly around the nicer areas.
Pros
The turbocharger i6 engine is super smooth and powerful, minimal turbo lag, loads of low down torque. The twin clutch transmission shifts almost imperceptibly. The interior is typical German quality, lots of leather and soft touch materials, very little hard cheap plastic. The seats are super comfortable and supportive for sporty driving, and the ergonomics of the cabin, steering wheel etc. are superb.
Cons
While the front seats are fantastic places to be for long trips, the back seats are cramped. The fuel economy isn't great, though that's not entirely unexpected for a car of its performance caliber. The ride is a tad firm, it would benefit from an adaptive suspension setup, but that does make the handling very tight and lots of fun.
