Chesapeake, VA Driving Tips
This city is so large! If you are looking to go anywhere in this city, your best chances of finding it are around Battlefield Blvd. Make this road your go-to road. Another road which has a lot of shops, and is the main access to the mall, and has many restaurants all in one location, directly across from the mall, is Greenbrier. This road has many shops and restaurants as well, it also has a park located off of it. So, if you are planning a trip to Chesapeake, and wanting to drive around, these two roads are the best choices of getting you around the city.
Chesapeake, VA Buying Tips
Battlefield Blvd. Is your best bet when it comes to finding a car lot. However, there is also a large Toyota dealership on Military Highway, right off of Battlefield. Its not far down the road, you can easily access it from Battlefield. But if you want to visit many dealers to check out the cars in person, driving down Battlefield will give you access to many different dealers, all not too far from each other. I have not used Craigslist of searched online for a car in Chesapeake, because I know how easy it is to visit many dealers at once, right off of Battlefield, so that is my go to when I am car shopping or talking to someone else about car shopping.
Favorite driving memory
This city is so large and I am still learning new roads everyday. My favorite memory involves moving into my home in Chesapeake. We moved here from Virginia Beach. When we drove from our old house this first time, to our current home, we had gone way out of our way to get here. Then, when heading to the store from our new home, we realized that there was a shorter, better way to drive to our home. It was a nice little surprise for our official moving day. Not only was it a shorter route, but the street, where Battlefield becomes Atlantic, wasn't as crowded as driving down Indian River, so you could maneuver down the street easily, and not feel so crowded and overwhelmed.
Favorite road
Battlefield Blvd. Battlefield is the main road for us, from our home. This is a very long road and this road has almost everything you would want on it. There are so many restaurants, grocery stores, shopping centers, it also has car shops and takes you to the mall. This road also takes you to the interstate and the Chesapeake Expressway, which will put you into North Carolina.

Chesapeake, VA Driving Tips
Chesapeake is reasonably well laid out, but because of the number of bridges and bodies of water, things can get backed up. Also, several major routes have improvement processes going on at once. Get to know your alternate routes, be prepared to use them, and always allow an extra 5-10 minutes to get places.
Chesapeake, VA Buying Tips
Battlefield Blvd. Has a nice little "Auto Row" between Great Bridge and Volvo Blvd. If you're new to the area, be sure to get specific directions if you're travelling to a listing from a classified/online ad - it's easy to get lost.
Favorite driving memory
After what seemed like the hundredth (probably about the 25th, really) time I got stuck in traffic for 20 minutes on I64 around exit 290, I discovered a side route I could take by exiting at Greenbrier and cutting down Military Highway onto Campostello Road. I was really pleased to find the new route. Even though it's longer 'as the crow flies' this route saved me 45 minutes that first day, and has saved me many times since.
Favorite road
I464. Most of the time, 464 is a nice fast shot to Norfolk or Portsmouth. It rarely gets backed up, is well-maintained, and generally pretty well patrolled (so people don't tend to speed too much).
