2005 Mitsubishi Lancer - Absolutely love this car
I financed this car after owning a beautiful 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse. I had my first child in 2003 and found that the hatchback in the Eclipse (and the fact it had two doors) was difficult to get an infant car seat out of multiple times a day. Once my son moved up to a booster type seat with the bar that came down and locked, I found the bar couldn't go all the way up - it would hit the ceiling, thus having my poor child maneuver at odd angels to get into his car seat. I went back to the same Mitsubishi dealership and inquired about their bigger sedan. My credit didn't allow me to finance one but they introduced me to the Lancer. It was smaller but with only one child, I felt it would be enough for us. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the car. It drove similarly to the Eclipse and... (more)

It was smaller but with only one child, I felt it would be enough for us. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the car. It drove similarly to the Eclipse and I didn't feel as though I was driving a "bus" compared to the two door I once had. I purchased it around the time the "2 Fast 2 Furious" movie came out so I was constantly asked if it was THAT kind of Lancer. So it was definitely a conversation starter! Going from a previously bright cherry red car to a black car, I was scared about the interior getting hot but found it was no more hot that any other car.
I had a particularly exhausting day, taking my children out with me for errands. At the time, my oldest was 8, my middle child was 4 and my youngest was maybe 8 or 9 months old. I had a particularly exhausting day, taking my children out with me for errands. At the time, my oldest was 8, my middle child was 4 and my youngest was maybe 8 or 9 months old. It was the dead of summer in South Carolina, 2011. We had just came out of Target and was heading to the car. All three kids were irritated, hungry and sleepy. I was fussing with them as we made out way to our car. I put the key in the trunk, turned and nothing. The trunk wouldn't open. My 4 year old is tugging on the back door, wanting to get in and out of the sun. I rushed around to the driver side, put the key in and couldn't turn it. I took it out and tried again. No turning. I kept getting more and more frustrated, ready to get home, get the kids settled with some lunch and get a shower because I was sweating so bad in the SC summer sun! I tried all the doors and for some reason my key wouldn't work! Just when I was pulling my cell phone out of my purse, a woman walked up to me with a puzzled look on her face. "Ma'am, Can I help you?" She asked. I started crying and blubbering about how the kids were hungry, I was exhausted, it was hot and now my car key didn't work. She smiled sweetly and said "Ma'am, your car key doesn't work because this is my car. Yours is probably the one that looks just like mine over there." She pointed two cars down. At that point, I couldn't help but bust into laughter while I was crying. The nice woman helped me get the kids to our car and even helped put the bags in the car and make sure we were all set before we left the parking lot. Ever since then, I make it a point to take a few moments to memorize where I'm at in the parking lot...And I always lend a hand to an overwhelmed mother when I see one!
The BEST thing about this vehicle is I have now gone 150,000+ and have only had to purchase two batteries in that time. It has had its normal oil changes and various rounds of tires, but I have not had a problem with the engine, fuel pump, etc. I've been very happy at how well it's stood up in 10 years. I'm a short person so having a compact car is great. The inside doesn't feel massive. I feel like everything is in a good arm distance and I don't have to unbuckle at a red light if I need to get something out of the glove compartment or to reach into the backseat. I now have three children... (more)

I honestly cannot think of anything TRULY negative about this car. There are times I wish I had a 6 disc CD changer but for the ES model, this wasn't an option. This car had everything that I needed in a car and it STILL is after 10 years.

2008 Mitsubishi Lancer - I love this car a lot.
The Lancer is a very good car. Even when checking other reviews, it is obvious that it is just built to be good. Dealerships are actually seeking these vehicles out and are willing to pay more for trade in because of the popularity. Over the seven years that I have owned this vehicle, with over 100k miles it hasn't yet had major issues.

I have used this vehicle to go on several vacations. Girl trips to Cedar Point and many other day trips that required many miles of driving. My now husband and I used this vehicle to get to our honeymoon destination and we took all back roads for a scenic tour.

Over time, rattles have not developed. It handles the road like it was a part of it. Great turn radius and ride. Some other cars feel like they are going to fall apart after a few years, but mine has lasted and felt sturdy after driving several miles to and from work for years. It is comfortable and has electronic accessories, such as windows and locks. It also has safety features that keep the car from running if it was taken and the key was not left in it. And the smart key is great too. Options for Bluetooth and satellite radio available. The size isn't too shabby either. Not to mention... (more)

When I first got the car, it had performance tires on it. They didn't handle very well in the rain or snow. But after changing tires to all weather, it handles like a dream. Which is great considering the cost of the original tires. There is also a problem with the exhaust system getting corroded, but Mitsubishi has a warranty extension to handle this condition. Staying up on maintenance has prolonged the life of the vehicle and helped there to be minimal problems. And there have only been at most 3 recalls since it was produced. It seems that all Mitsubishis have control arm issues, so that would be something to watch out for if there does start to be a rattle, but again the warranty on control arms is powertrain so it is covered for quite a while.
2007 Mitsubishi Lancer - My Lancer
I love my car. It gets me from here to there and also is very comfortable and gas efficient on long trips. I have used it every day for the last 11 years. The only issue I have had with it is that I popped a tire, but that's not the cars fault!

I was turning left on a green light, but the car on the other side of the intersection suddenly accelerated and hit the passengerÕs side of my car. There was no physical damage to the car except for it started making a weird noise. I was like 20 years old, and brought the car to a mechanic. He was like, ÒNope, I absolutely canÕt fix it. This car is too unsafe to drive, and I canÕt let you leave the property in it. You can either pay for a tow truck or you can sell it to me for one dollar.Ó I was freaking out because I thought heÕd call the cops on me if I left the lot in this car, and I didnÕt want to get a tow. So I sold him my car for a dollar.
Heater and A/C have never had issues. Never had a motor problem or anything too seriously mechanically wrong with the car. It is small and easily parkable. It gets reliable and good gas mileage. Front seats pull forward and make it easy to clean. The clothing hooks work well. Glovebox is more than appropriately sized.

Feel tossed by wind. Rattle noise sometimes can be overheard. Seats stained easily, but it is an old car. No backseat cupholders. Floormats did not come with vehicle. Mandatory recall on airbags.
