I love the functionality and toughness of this vehicle
I bought this vehicle with 125,000 miles. This was the first 4X4 vehicle I have ever owned and certainly the first all-wheel drive. It took a few days to get used to driving an all-wheel drive vehicle, but I don't think I could drive anything else now. This vehicle has a 3.5 V6 that has plenty of power. It has plenty of torque to power through traffic if need be or haul a trailer. The vehicle has been dependable overall with repair needs. However, it does have several rattles and is a noisy ride. The interior is cloth and does not have many upgrades. There is plenty of storage space with hidden compartments in the rear cargo bay. I often haul my kayaks on the roof rack, and it has plenty of room for two kayaks and gear in the back. I would say that the overall quality is good for this trim model. The all-wheel drive version is rare in this model, and I am not sure I would be impressed without it. For most off-road jobs you never need to take it out of all-wheel drive and switch to traditional four-wheel drive. I would definitely recommend a use Montero Sport. It's just too bad they don't make them any more.

Montero Sport SUV workhorse.
The Montero sport is highly reliable, and maintenance costs are low. The car features large amounts of cargo space which was ideal when I was changing addresses often in college. Performance is average with a 235 HP v6 engine with less than average acceleration for its class. However, with a relatively low price tag when purchased second hand, performance issues can be easily overlooked. The ES trim lacks four-wheel drive functionality, but in city driving situations, this becomes a non issue. Non-powertrain parts and labor costs are very low. Powertrain parts are similarly cheap, however maintenance ,such as changing spark plugs, can take in excess of four hours due to their placement on the engine block. Depending on your location and service center, this can become very expensive. Overall, the car gets the job done with average performance and interior. It does what a basic SUV should for a low price -- making it an excellent value.
