My 2005 Subaru Legacy recently hit 100,000 miles. During the seven years that I've owned this vehicle, I have always felt safe while driving, due to the all-wheel drive, dual airbags, and Subaru's high safety ratings. I love that my car looks like a slightly sporty sedan. The interior features I most enjoy are the moon roof, leather upholstery, heated seats, and power windows and seating. My Subaru is also fun to drive! I enjoy how it hugs curves and can speed up quickly or stop on a dime. I have it serviced regularly and thus far have only had routine maintenance (replacing tires, brakes, air filters, etc.). Although I love this particular make and model, I will probably purchase a Subaru that is not quite as low to the ground as the Legacy. I have moved to a more rural area and somet... (more)

I am considered an essential employee at my job, which means I have to come in even in inclement weather. I have watched other people struggle to get their steering under control or to make it up the relatively steep hills on our campus, while I have never had an issue navigating in ice, snow, or wet conditions.

The Subaru Legacy sedan sits lower than I'd like. Sometimes the undercarriage gets scraped on rough/uneven terrain. It is also so low that my parents sometimes have a little trouble getting up out of the seats.

2005 Subaru Legacy - I have loved this car, but it hasn't aged well

I love my Subaru Legacy. When I bought her, I felt like she was stylish, she drove well, and was comfortable for long drives alone or with a car full of friends. I was very disappointed when I a computer sensor associated with sensing acceleration stopped working and had to be replaced (difficult to figure out this was the issue and quite costly). It is also very finicky with fluids and oil. I once went to a general place to get my fluids changed, and I had to take my car back to a Subaru dealership to get the proper fluids because the car was not driving correctly. In the past years (~50,000 miles) I've had to have the power steering fluid holder replaced *twice* as well the brushings, bearings, timing belt (but I knew this was expected), and need to have the catalytic converted... My Subaru has driven my off to college, back home for grad school, and away again for my first job. My co-pilots have included three boyfriends, more friends than I can count, and the sweetest pet cockatiel. She's moved brides, graduates, and parents-to-be, and has traveled from Chicago to New York, Ft. Lauderdale, and Birmingham. When I got it ten years ago, I envisioned driving my future k... (more)

I've been so happy with this car when it is running well. Maybe I got a lemon? My sister has a 2006 Subaru Legacy, and she had not had many of the same problems that I've had (e.g. the sensor, the steering fluid issues). I love how roomy the car is when travelling with friends and family and how comfortable it is for long (5-8+) hour drives. The trunk has always been large enough to fit anything I've needed to move. I especially love the intermittent windshield wiper setting.
En Contra
I feel like it is not holding up well in it's old age (11 years, ~120,000 miles). I've had to have quite a few repairs over the past few years, probably totaling to more than the car is worth.
