2013 Ford Focus - Good vehicle for traveling with the family.
My husband picked this car out as our family vehicle when we were pregnant with our first baby. Coming from a Dodge family, I was a bit skeptical but trusted his research and conclusions. It sits comfortably and has held up to our 80k mileage in the 4 years without needing any major repairs. It has plenty of room in the hatchback to pack for 2-3 week trips, with extra toys to entertain the two kids we now have. The gas mileage is good enough where we can travel without feeling as guilty, and I really like how it accepts alternative gas sources.

One time, traveling back from South Dakota to Oklahoma, we ended up going on a back road to let our oldest out to move around. Ended up it had been raining heavily the day before, and although the cement roads were all dry, the road we went on was gravel and was actually quite muddy. We didn't realize it, and about a half mile in we parked, then started sinking. It took about a half hour to get back out from all of the mud and from sinking so much, but it's a fun memory on how the hubs and I worked together to get the car out of a muddy situation.
The reliability. In the 4 years we've had it, we've driven around 80k miles and have not broken down during any of our trips. Also, no other system has broken or required excess work to keep up and running. We've been in Texas and North Dakota, during their rough months respectively, and have had no issues with starting the vehicle. Gas mileage. It doesn't take a bunch of fuel all of the time, and when we do go on trips, the gas mileage is around 40 miles per gallon. It's spacious enough for a young family of 4, with room for toys and other entertainment. The hatchback. It makes it easy to... (more)

It makes it easy to pack for trips but we can also haul things like wood for my husband's wood working projects, and for carrying big items without needing a pickup. The materials inside have held up decently well, considering how much food and drinks have been spilled everywhere. While it doesn't feel like top end materials, it's functioning well for what we need it to do.
Air filter and A/C unit. It has a tendency to output a moldy smell, so we leave the windows open when we first start to get it to aerate a bit. Not a good deal in a state where it gets over 100 degrees F every summer. User interface for the music/sound station. Whoever designed this was not designing it with a driver in mind, and wasn't very thorough with the testing. If we use the Bluetooth over the speaker, we need to restart the system before we can switch back to the radio or CD, and most of the time the lady can't understand what we are saying anyways. If we use the Bluetooth over the speaker, we need to restart the system before we can switch back to the radio or CD, and most of the time the lady can't understand what we are saying anyways. It's very tedious and requires a lot of clicking between screens to get to where you want to be. Lots of recalls, with the door latch and transmission issues. The back tires have a tendency to leak air, so I feel like we need to put air in the back (especially right) tire every few months or so. Not sure why, maybe it's just being aware of the issue, but I've never had a car that requires air so often. When one window is open, it causes a wind tunnel effect inside the vehicle and really messes with my ears. To offset it, another window on the opposite side has to be open, around the same level as the other window.
2016 Ford Focus - Best car ever
We got this car to replace our old Charger because of the gas mileage. We get higher than expected. We got a black car, but I really wanted a dark purple or blue. I'm very impressed. The car is low to the ground but built so that you don't bottom out too easily! And don't get me started on the trunk space. We travel with two cats back there, and we can fit a litterbox and a bed and still have about three feet of space for them to lay.

We drove to North Dakota, about 20 hours with two cats and it was so easy. The cats were happy, and we had a lot of stuff that fit into the car.

It's very reliable. We haven't had any issues yet! We do our own oil changes, and it has never even had a hiccup. I also love the Bluetooth. The sound quality is fantastic.

The Ford Focus isn't the most comfortable vehicle for long-distance travel. There is little room for snacks or extra legroom, even when the seat is set back.
