The first thing that attracted me to it was that it was a Honda - a company with a good reputation, especially in the '90s. The second, the rated MPG was on the high side, which I was very interested in. But I found even more things to love and very few to hate. The quality is great, similar to the Civics of those years. After almost 30 years, the car is still holding up in almost every aspect besides the exterior, as expected, and is very easy to service.
Story
Driving around with the top down in the sun with sunglasses on, is incomparable. Driving around at night with the top off and heat blasting, is an incredible experience as well, because you can just look up and see all the stars above you as you drive.
Pros
My top three were definitely Honda reliability, 30+ mpg combined, and the removable hardtop which turned it into a very cute two seater. This is great in the summer. That has to be my favorite. Second favorite has to be the rear window which is situated in an "archway" behind the seats, adding support to this modified Civic. It is a power window and goes down with a button on the driver's door for ventilation or for maximum airiness when the top is off! It's great when you don't want a lot of noise but you want some air on the highway. But more subtle are the seats, striped in the middle t... (more)
Cons
I can't say there are many negative things, only small nitpicks. After almost 30 years, the seals for the roof have begun to fail and the car will leak in rain if it's hard enough. Seals are discontinued from the manufacturer, so I am limited to cannibalizing a car in better shape, but usually I just ignore the drips on both seats and park in a garage with windows open as much as possible. Or I cover the car with a tarp. The only other thing I can think of is the cup holder placement which is right at the elbow. If you have a manual del Sol, this may be a little dangerous for your drink. T... (more)

My Del Sol is the best car ever. It is sporty and fun to drive. Now that it is getting older I am waiting for it to become a classic car. Although it is a small two-seater car, when I remove the T-Top roof I can fit an amazing variety of things into it. I can also fit long things into it by opening the back window, so it is not as impractical as it might seem at first glance. The styling of the Del Sol is classic and beautiful. A big plus is the gas mileage. I get about 35 miles to the gallon on the highway and not that much less in the city. Since I do not drive it that much $20 in gas can last me a couple of weeks. That is very rare these days and a great plus. The stylish bucket seats are very comfortable and have great lumbar support. Although I am tall it is easy to fit into this ... (more)
Story
I love when people stop me and ask what kind of car it is. People always admire how attractive my Del Sol is.
Pros
Great gas mileage, super cute design, lots of leg room, extremely reliable.
Cons
The tiny sun visor is absolutely useless. It is the one thing I do not like. It is difficult to drive in the rain because it is so low to the ground.

I love my Honda Del Sol! I have owned two of these over the years, but only because my first one was hit by another driver and I couldn't live without it! This is definitely a driver's vehicle. It packs a lot of power for such a small car, and the handling is unparalleled by others. The top comes off, for those days you want a convertible, and goes back on in a moment with ease when needed. There is a rack built into the truck of the car that the top easily slides in and out of. I am a smaller woman, and am able to take the top off and on and store it without help or difficulty. The factory stereo system is decent, but with the age of these cars you will need to update the system to reflect current technology. Very easy on gas, it averages 40mpg on the highway which is great. All aroun... (more)
Story
I once drove this car over 400 miles in one day. It was all highway miles, the sun was shining and the drive was fabulous. It was just me, my music, and my car. Great for the soul.
Pros
Good gas mileage, excellent quality car that will last for many years, easy and fun to drive, can remove and store top easily to make convertible.
Cons
The only thing negative about this vehicle is that they are hard to find as they were only manufactured for a few years in the 90s.
