2014 Honda Civic - Great Car For The Money

The 2014 Honda Civic is a well made car. Designed for the commuter in mind it gets great gas mileage on the highway and even sitting in traffic. The dash panel is somewhat designed as a cockpit and it wraps around the driver so that all the controls are easily accessible to the driver and easily read during the day and at night. A nice feature is the ability to upload different pictures as a wallpaper in the display center, which is nice because you can personalize the car so that you can see pictures of your family etc... On long commutes. The seats are very comfortable and I have noticed that I do not feel fatigued, even on long drives. The CVT transmission is very smooth while shifting and the car is relatively quite, even at high speeds. The car looks good inside and out, and is v... (more)

2010 Honda Civic - Reliable, Slightly Boring Car

Overall, I have been very pleased with my purchase. The car has been reliable, gets good gas mileage, and handles well. While this car lacks some of the bells and whistles of more recent models, this is the newest model that I have purchase and I appreciate some of the advanced dashboard features such as tire pressure indicators. Trunk space and leg room are adequate. Engine runs quietly and accelerates fairly well. For the most part the dashboard controls are intuitive, though I wish that there was a radio tuner on the steering wheel. There are relatively few blind spots in the car; the mirrors are set up well and I have a clear view of my surroundings. Overall, I have very few complaints. I find some of the Honda fail-safes to be slightly annoying, though. For instance the car beeps ... (more)
Story
I bought this from a friend, and the whole experience was a giant hassle. He lives in an adjacent state, and I needed to make several trips out before I could actually pick up the car. He was a dope and sent me the valet key but not the master key, and the car's security system prevented it from starting. This was irritating, but eventually we got everything straightened out.
Pros
Reliability, good gas mileage, quiet, a few modern features on the dashboard.
Cons
Honda fail-safe features can be annoying. This is a slightly boring car that isn't to the taste of some people. It is smaller so people more concerned with highway safety or who have families might want something larger like an SUV.

2000 Honda Civic -

My Honda Civic 2000 is an efficient, lightweight car that I bought from my mother a year ago. She bought the car when I was still in high school or middle school, and I learned to drive on it. (I even had my first accident in it--someone ran a stop sign and T-boned me at 25 mph.) After I went to college, I didn't drive it again, but two years after I graduated and moved to Iowa, I bought it from her so that my wife could use her other car while I moved to Michigan for graduate school. It may not be young anymore, but it's a solidly built car that's reliable and safe.
Story
Growing up, we had neighbors across the street who were very into Honda cars. However, my mother never had one--she had a Toyota and a very luxurious Oldsmobile she inherited from my grandfather, but no Honda. When she finally bought one, the neighbors greeted her one day by saying, "So I see you finally got a good car."
Pros
The fuel efficiency is great. With gas cost about $2.20 in my area at the moment, I never pay more than fifteen dollars at the pump. It's also compact enough to make parking easy without being so small as to be uncomfortable. Most importantly, however, is the incredible endurance of the vehicle. Despite being sixteen years old, the interior is in excellent condition, the engine runs fine, and it's great for traveling long distances. Having survived one minor accident and a nasty trip into a ditch during a winter storm, it's also one tough car.
Cons
Because the vehicle is so lightweight, it's at greater risk for slipping on ice, and you can really feel it when driving through a windstorm. I've also heard that the transmissions of this model can be problematic, although I haven't experienced anything like that. Additionally, it sometimes has difficulty staying at 70 mph on particularly steep highways.
