Pros

  • Strong turbocharged engine
  • Excellent ride and handling with all models
  • Stylish exterior
  • Clever storage solutions and more cargo space
  • Cons

  • Manual transmission limited to lower trims levels
  • Aggressive look and it might be too much for some people
  • Forward collision alert system is prone to overreaction
  • No paddle shifters

  • Key Takeaways

Although the 2018 Honda Civic does have an aggressive appearance that some people might not like, the exterior is stylish for a vehicle in its class. The strong turbocharged engine that's standard on many higher-end trims has plenty of smooth power. The Civic also boasts excellent ride and great handling. Some reviewers hoped for paddle shifters on models with automatic transmissions and found the forward collision alerts occasionally too sensitive. However, the clever storage solutions for the compact sedan provides more cargo space than expected.

When I first saw this car, I knew it was the one for me. The color is the "sonic pearl gray" offered by Honda, and it's a combination of gray and light blue. It looks like a battleship gray. While that sounds like it would be a boring color, it's nothing like that at all. It's the feature everyone notices at first. Performance-wise, it's the high quality you'd expect from a Honda, and it's one of the roomiest vehicles I've ever owned. I stuffed three empty pallets into the hatch and just drove off with them with no problems at all. I carry audio equipment around in it all the time, and more often than not, my girlfriend and a kid or two or three. Plenty of room and plenty of zoom... and takeoff from a dead stop is much faster than I expected for a regular consumer-level car.
    Story
I was parking downtown, and the shape of the Civic Hatchback is very smooth and round in an unexpected way. As I was parking, I heard someone outside say, "Is that a Porsche?"
    Pros
The heated seats are great. This is my first vehicle with heated seats, and if you've never owned one like that before, it's worth springing for that feature. The model I have technically has the base package, bit for some reason the heated seats were added on. That was specifically why I bought this car versus others in the lot. I also like the economy feature, but I'm not sure if it really makes a lot of difference. It feels like I'm using the same amount of gas.
    Cons
The biggest thing I don't like is the audio and entertainment system. Most of the time it's fantastic, and the sound quality is very good. My issue is Bluetooth. It often loses connection with my phone, and since I carry all my music around on my phone with me and run it through the stereo, when it glitches, it's a bit frustrating. I've also had a few cases where the whole audio system "reboots" while driving. Since it's not an essential system I'm ok with it, but given that the dash and instrument panels are all LCD based, I don't know if they're all tied into the same computer system or ... (more)

The Honda Civic 2018 model is an excellent choice for buyers looking for outstanding value, style and gas economy. It is the third new Honda I have owned in the last 30 years. My last Honda was 20 years old with only maintenance issues to contend with. The 2018 model got top marks on style, handling, reliability and gas mileage. I choose this car with long term ownership in mind. I choose the top line package because it came with navigation system, safety features, sun roof, ABS, and 17 inch tires. The car has performed remarkably. It is comfortable for both my husband 6ft 3in, and my self 5 ft. 4in. There is adequate head room, and leg room even in the back seats. The sound system is over the top. It is blue tooth enhanced, and above average speakers. It performs great on highway and ... (more)
    Story
The first weekend I bought the car I drove up the coast to Maine. The car was wonderful to drive. I was able to open the sun roof on the high way and blast the music. When it got too hot, the air conditioning and quietness of the vehicle were perfect. I was able to make the trip with one tank of gas.
    Pros
The gas mileage has averages 38 miles per gallon. The car is small enough to be comfortable to drive for a shorter person and large in its class for a larger person. It has a high reliability rating and should last far beyond the payments. It looks like a much more expensive car. Safety features wore well worth the upgrade.
    Cons
The price with all of the options was very expensive. Other cars are cheaper of the same class of car. The remote has been glitchy. Also the tires and rims are targeted by thieves. The car needs to be parked in secure spaces. All the electronics in the car make it expensive for repairs.
