2004 Honda Pilot - Big Enough for a Very Big Instrument

I bought a 2004 Honda Pilot in order to have a vehicle that could handle a variety of road conditions and that would last me several years. The Pilot handles exceptionally well in all kinds of weather (rain, snow, wind, etc...) and I've never had a serious problem with it. The car feels very solid and well built, and even gets decent gas mileage for its size. I would very much recommend it for people looking for a mid-size SUV that won't break down in only a few years.
Story
I was driving on the highway when suddenly my wife and I were confronted with a snowstorm! It was night & day with how the road was before. I'll never forget it since it was around when we first got the vehicle and we tried to be exceptionally careful with our driving. (P.S. - The Pilot worked great in the snow! Kept a good grip on the road the entire time!)
Pros
Very Comfortable: The EXL trim is a very nice package. The seats are heated and very comfortable to sit in, making for some nice road trips, even in cold weather.. Surprising Cargo Space: I play the Double Bass, and this vehicle has no problem transporting.
Cons
Some of the chrome detail inside feels cheap. For example, the plastic chrome around the inside door handles has started chipping and is very sharp. I've opted to peel off what I can to avoid getting poked! The GPS is difficult to update.

When we were in the market to purchase a new vehicle, I was driving a 4-door sedan. We wanted something bigger because we knew we'd end up having kids someday. My current car has leather seats, a sun roof, and seat warmers, so I knew I wanted those features again for sure. When we met with the salesperson, we told him we liked the Pilot and told him how awesome it would be to have a Pilot with those features I wanted. He told us that one had just come in and they hadn't even washed it yet. We looked at it - it was a GREAT color (metallic blue-gray), it had the features, AND it was available for purchase immediately. I loved that it had 3rd row seating and that it was a good-sized vehicle, but not too big. It took a little getting used to - the brakes in a vehicle like that aren't "stop... (more)
Pros
3Rd row seating, seat warmers, sun roof
Cons
No automatic locks, the plastic parts all over most of the car

Having owned other SUVs previously, I thought I knew what to expect as far as interior refinement and space, however the Pilot blew me away with both. Specifically, the usable third row is great, as is the console area between the front seats. There is so much room to store and haul all of the things that go along with a growing family! The V6 also provides ample power, in merging and passing situations, and it rides and handles like a dream. Further, one definite upgrade over previous vehicles, is the amount of visibility from all angles, very few if any, “blind-spots”, which can be tricky in larger vehicles.
Story
We took a great trip to the beach in the Pilot, and it was the first time that the family and dogs all fit in one vehicle comfortably. It was great not having to rent a larger SUV or take along a cartop carrier.
Pros
I love the cameras, both backup and side view cameras make navigating parking and lane changes a breeze. Love the spacious interior, and the finishes look on par with much more expensive vehicles. Engine is much more powerful versus comparable small/mid-sized SUVs, but still gets good fuel economy.
Cons
Don’t like the touchscreen surface on the entertainment controls, it is very glossy, and because of that, immediately becomes “smudged” with fingerprints when used. Also, wish you did not have to upgrade all the way up to the EX-L version to be able to get leather.
