We got the Honda Pilot back in 2005. It is now 2017 and the vehicle has over 200,000 miles on it and still runs like it's brand new. It's taken us on countless road trips and we have never had any engine trouble or problems with fluids. The biggest thing we have had to do thus far was replace the tires, but tires get worn out so that's a normal thing that needs replacing. The vehicle was especially awesome for when our children were smaller and had many friends that we could easily pile into the back. The only complaint I have is that now it's nearly impossible to sit adults comfortably in the third row of the vehicle. We found that only one adult can sit comfortably in the third row, and only if they put their legs to the side on the seat. We are also looking to downsize since we do n... (more)
Story
We live near a beach and there's a long dirt road with lots of bumps and turns to get to it. I wasn't sure that the vehicle would make it through but sure enough with the all wheel drive, it wasn't a problem. We were able to bring all of our coolers, food, towels, chairs, and people down to the beach comfortably.
Pros
The front seats and the second row of seats are very spacious and comfortable. Also, having the DVD player was a huge bonus when our children were small and we had many miles to drive. The leather seats are also easy to clean and have lasted quite awhile. The seats in the back fold down nicely and easily so that it's easy to make room if need be. The car has held up nicely through all the driving and commuting we have put it through. 200,000 plus miles and it still runs like it's brand new, incredible really.
Cons
Like previously mentioned, it is nearly impossible to fit a full sized adult in the third back row. Also the headlight covers need to be cleaned every now and again, it really makes a difference once they are clean. The leather seats do get worn and we have had to duct tape a few parts where the leather has ripped.

Overall this is the most reliable automobile I have ever owned. My Pilot is going on 300k miles and I have had no major hiccups. It has survived 13 New England winters without giving me a hassle and still holds up to this day. I love the plain look of the exterior, nice and normal, a practical shape. I can't stand the look of the new Pilot or any other modern crossover SUVs.
Story
Taking the kids all the way to Quebec City (a 9 hour drive). It was a scenic route through New England and because they had an potentially endless amount of entertainment options in the back, there was little-to-no complaining.
Pros
The reliability is the trait that most stands out about this model of the Pilot. As stated previously, my model is going on 300k miles and I haven't had a major malfunction, save for squeaky breaks (but that's to be expected around 200k miles anyways). This has saved me countless of thousands of dollars than if I had purchased a similar model of an American SUV. My model was pretty advanced for 2005 as it had a DVD player in the back and a AV-cable hookup so the kids can stay occupied on long drives.
Cons
The only truly negative thing I have to say about this vehicle is the complete blandness of the interior. Everything including the dashboard and surrounding plastic, as well as the leather seats is this drab grey with a splash of green color. The only other minor complaint I have is that the hydraulics on the doors and the back door have started to sag, but this is a 14 year old car, so that is to be expected.
