I bought my Insight certified used through Honda. I've been overall pleased with my car. For a small car it has great space. The gas mileage is a blessing. The quality is excellent and I've had no problems with my car in the 2.5 Years I've owned it.
Story
My dog rolled down the backseat window on his own (with his paw on the window button). Thankfully I have child lock so I can stop him from doing this!
Pros
Great quality - it's a Honda... You can't beat that! Nice space for such a small car. The hatchback is nice. Gas mileage is great I feel very safe in my car.
Cons
While I do get great gas mileage I also feel that it could be better for a hybrid. I can't complain too much because this is the first hybrid I've owned and I certain get better gas mileage than my last car but I think it's on the low end for most other hybrids. Not a lot of power. For me this wasn't an issue since I don't care about having a fast car. I was more interested in safe and reliable.

The Honda Insight is an adequate fuel-saving people mover. With pedestrian seats, an anemic acceleration profile, weird shifting and strange HVAC system, the Honda insight has some rough edges. Honda's approach to hybrid technology is simpler than Toyotas, but falls behind in the fuel-saving categories.
Story
It has not left me stranded.
Pros
Typical MPG of 40-45 of mixed driving. Up to 55 if you're really careful about using the hybrid system. A surprising amount of storage in the hatchback design, with an ease of ingress and egress. A robust and functional audio system and Vehicle information system gives the driver the control they need.
Cons
Cramped backseat with short headspace for taller passengers. Anemic acceleration, especially when in "Green" mode. HVAC system that seems to have a mind of its own, especially when in "Green" mode. Loud road nose because of weight savings measures. A predilection for eating tires, especially when using "low-rolling resistance" style for hybrids.

This car produces exceptionally good fuel economy. I average about 50-54 mpg regardless of how I drive, and I drive it most of the time in the 60-75 mph. My Insight is a 2001 that I bought when it had 16,095 miles on it. I bought it from a dealer who told me the older lady who owned it got ill shortly after she bought it, and it sat in the garage for most of the time between 2001 and 2012. My mileage now was 75,926 at my last fill-up, so I have put almost 60,000 on the car. I needed to replace the main battery shortly after I bought the car. Because it sat around for much of the 11 years the lady owned it. When I first bought it, the gas mileage ranged from a low of 47.7 to a high of 60.3 mpg. I would guess the average mileage was about 53-54 mpg. I calculated the gas mileage by keepin... (more)
Story
Drove from Riverside to SF, stopping along Big Sur. Very reliable car, had no worries taking it all the way there and back.
Pros
Amazing fuel economy, astounding technology, lots of standard equipment, gas mileage, ability to monitor gas mileage in real time, quickness, handling, legroom, incredible reliability, and unbelievably economical. Comfortable and surprisingly roomy. I like how convenient it is. Two seats and the dash looks great for a 2001 car. It is indeed a well-advanced car for its time. There's even power steering. It's the very first hybrid car ever created. Plus, I have saved thousands of dollars on gas driving this—not to mention helping the environment. The exterior look of this car is awesome—my f... Cons
Batteries drain fast under continual electric motor assist, highly susceptible to crosswinds, and not much point-and-shoot power on tap. Plus, the car is noisy on the inside (Honda did not add any sound proofing in order to save weight and maximize mileage). The stereo system needs to be upgraded. This will certainly make up for any added road noise. It's very hard to get decent tires for this model, odd-sized tires. The brakes and the ABS system simply don't work as well as they should. Also, I lost my right side panel, and it is pretty hard to find another one to replace it, as not many ... (more)
