The build quality of this year Honda Civic is what gave Honda Motor Corporation the reputation that they have today. The car has been virtually maintenance free for well over 200,000 miles driven. All systems have operated flawlessly since ownership in 1997. Not only will this car drive you around the world and back, but it will do so while sipping on fuel. Highway gas mileage is logged at over 40 miles per gallon, and city driving is only slightly lower at 32 miles per gallon with the manual transmission. Honda truly did build these cars to last a lifetime. I have been driven this model civic since I turned 16 years old. It has never let me down even through all of the abuse I have put it through when I learned how to drive with it. The car, while marketed as an economy cruiser, will ... (more)
Story
One winter in high school, I was able to drive my car through a golf course near my school. The golf course was closed because it was winter time, and the car was small enough that it would fit on the cart path. My friends and I had a great laugh afterwards.
Pros
This civic came with a bulletproof 1.6 liter SOHC gas powered engine. It produced about 107 horsepower and revved freely to 7200 rpm. The engine will produce a nice smooth power all the way to redline. The gearbox mated to the engine shifts as smooth as butter. Even after 250,000 miles there is no gridding or catching between shifts. The car interior is adequate to provide comfortable transportation for up 4 full sized adults. Fuel efficiency, even for today's modern vehicles, comes in at over 40 miles per gallon on the interstate. The car can easily travel over 400 miles at a time on the ... (more)
Cons
The road noise when traveling at seventy miles per hour can become very loud after extended periods of driving. Also due to the small displacement engine, climbing large hills can become a struggle.

It's been a long journey with this car. It has over 206,000 miles on it but he's still going strong, although I have had to put a good amount of work into it. Whenever anyone mentions reliable vehicle, what's the first thing that comes to mind? A Honda or Toyota. My Honda Civic is no exception - for the most part. As far as performance, it's not the greatest. Driving over 75 miles per hour is a struggle. I just don't think the engine can keep up anymore. The AC still works great, as do the power windows. It still looks pretty good for being over 16 years old, too. The gas mileage is unbeatable - 35 mpg on the highway, 30 in the city. Once I fix the O2 sensor, I expect my gas mileage will go even higher. As far as styling, you don't purchase an old Civic because you want to look cool. Y... (more)
Story
I drove it down to Pensacola with my best friend a couple of years ago, for a weekend trip to the beach. I was paranoid the whole way that it wasn't going to make it that far, but it did great! The only downside is the AC went out about halfway there, but fortunately it just needed a freon charge.
Pros
Top positives about my car are definitely fuel economy and reliability. Hondas drive forever -they're known for it, and I fully intend to push my car to at least 300,000 miles. As far as fuel economy, at 16 years old, it still gets 35 mpg on the highway and 30 in the city. You really can't ask for more from an old car. Finally, one thing I like about Japanese cars versus American, they think of the little things: my car has a built in CD player, vs. my old 2002 Ford Escort which had a tape deck. The AC and heat work almost immediately without the car having to warm up for 10 minutes - like... (more)
Cons
It's hard to come up with a negative about this car, but I guess I would say appearance is the main one. It's not sporty, luxury, or pretty by any means. It was built for practicality, and I guess some people would consider that a negative. The other cons specifically have to do with my car and the amount of work I've had to do since I got it. Every used car purchase is obviously going to have it's own fair share of problems, but so far I have had to replace the head gasket, water pump, and alternator. Most people would most likely junk a high mileage car when you have to replace the head ... (more)

I was able to choose my car online and there were many options to choose from. I didn't have to haggle with a car salesman or be bothered my one. I literally picked my car out, bought it online, and flew to Nashville to pick up my car - which the company paid for my flight!
