I bought my Hyundai Elantra at a time when there was a glut of these foreign-made cars on the market, so the car dealership in our area had the car for 14 thousand dollars. I liked that the car was small, which makes it easier to fit into the parking spaces around my condo. In fact it's much easier to park than even a medium size car. I was careful to follow the directions regarding not driving over a certain mile-per-hour speed when I first got the car, and the recommendation was viable until 1000 miles, I believe it was. This car was purported to get good gas mileage, and I agree that I spend less money on fuel than I used to. I like that it has a good radio. I don't like that the trunk handle--being plastic--broke off. So I can't open the trunk when I'm inside the car. And the light... (more)
Story
Mine was about wrecking the vehicle. I rode it into the guard rail coming off a cloverleaf a few years back, and even though I wasn't going that fast, the car was riddled on the driver's side by the metal almost the entire length of the car.
Pros
Price was right, good gas mileage, easy to park and handles easily, visors that rotate to side window if desired, good radio, visors that rotates, car handles nicely.
Cons
Plastic trunk handle broke off. Lights and windows fog up for no apparent reasons. Passenger side window falls into the slot, even after having it fixed.

The 2010 Hyundai Elantra Blue was my first brand-new car. Prior to this, I had only owned used cars. The car was exceptional in the number of bells and whistles it had for an entry level price-point. It came equipped with keyless entry and power windows, a particularly high-quality sound system and CD player, and an input for a USB drive, which at the time was only just emerging in cars. The cloth interior was comfortable and spacious and has held up well in the nearly ten years that I have owned the car. Additionally, the components of the car - the drive train, the engine, the tires, have all held up fantastically over the years and in spite of very significant mileage - nearly 300K. The handling was also quite good for an entry-level car. I would recommend this to anyone who is seek... (more)
Story
This was not a fun story. However, I was once trapped in a flash-flood situation with my car during a rain event. Although this was a harrowing experience - being in a small sedan in back country roads that were unfamiliar and involved a lot of water - my car handled itself very well. Perhaps in spite of some of my choices - like momentarily driving into deep water. It did very well in that si... (more)
Pros
In general, the car is very sound and has held up beautifully in spite of a lot of mileage. I have driven this car across the United States and down the West Coast more than once, and while the total number of miles isn't as high as others who I know, I have put on a lot of miles in short succession. I have had very few maintenance needs, aside from routine work like break pads and rotors, but they have all needed replacement well within industry parameters.
Cons
From a safety perspective, I wish that the horn of the car were much louder. Because this is a smaller sedan, I have often been cut off or otherwise been the victim of aggressive drivers, and I sometimes worry that I cannot be heard during traffic when I honk the horn. I have also had some very minor aesthetic issues in the dash - for example, one of the components for my front air-conditioning vents was easily damaged and actually fell into the dashboard, which has impacted the functionality of the air conditioning.
