The 2002 Jetta TDI is a great car to own. The mileage I get from the turbo-diesel engine is outstanding. When I first got the car, I would get 45 MPG + on long road trips. It is a little bit less now that the car is a bit older but still beats my other vehicle. The car is fun to drive, when clean, looks outstanding and has not failed to get me from point a to b yet and there are 140,000 miles on it. I have a few caveats regarding the vehicle. One, the drain tubes for the sun roof get clogged quite easily. There was definitely some issue in how they are produced. I ended up snipping the ends of them off and they are fine now. Before that, during heavy rain, water would leak into the driver's side foot well. The electrical system in the car is flaky as well. I have had numerous issues wi... (more)

My wife and I have one numerous road rallies sponsored by my place of employment. We have traveled all over Pittsburgh looking for ridiculous clues to get to the end of the course.
Pros

Cons
Not a family car, can't put an infant car seat easily in the back electrical system cup holder location

The Jetta is a great quality car that will last a long time as long as you do regular maintenance on it. I like that it's on the smaller size, so it's easy to park and navigate even in small city lanes, but it still has ample room on the interior to comfortably use it as an every day commuter car, fit two friends in the back seat, and have plenty of room in the trunk to go shopping or run errands. The design is pretty straightforward and no frills, which is nice because I don't want a ton of fancy stuff that has to be maintained and cleaned, but it has everything you really need in a car. Performance-wise, it has good pick up, and has a lot of pep in it when you need to pass someone or merge lanes. Everything shifts pretty well, and I like that it is automatic. My friends have complime... (more)

This car goes everywhere with me! Road trips, to the beach, on vacation, and keeps me going to work every day!
Pros
The fabric seats are a nice material that doesn't get too hot or cold in extreme weather so it won't burn or freeze your legs when you get in and out like leather seats do. The side mirrors have defrosters in them which cuts down on cold snowy clean off time during the winters. The side mirrors also fold in which keeps them safe for parking in tight spaces in a garage or when going through an automated car wash. The heat kicks on fast and really warms up during those cold winter days. The audio unit is streamlined and easy to use and it is simple to program. The vents are large enough to h... (more)
Cons
I have had multiple issues with the check engine light coming on due to a faulty sensor in the thermostat in the engine's cooling system. This has required a lot of attention, especially around inspection time. The electronic components of the doors have faulted so my key fob does not always function and the one back door doesn't open unless you open it from the inside. Due to Volkswagen's proprietary key fob "regulations" it would cost over $200 to replace my lost key fob, so I only have one key. Over time, the suspension has become squeaky and requires frequent lubrication. The cruise co... (more)

The first car I'd ever purchased on my own was at Day Apollow VW in Moon Township. I was a college student at the time, and didn't have a very large budget. The people there were able to help me sort out some financing and got me into a car that I could afford. What made them different than the other VW dealerships that I'd visited was their willingness to find me the exact car that was right for me. Just because they didn't have a car on the lot that was right, didn't mean that the deal was over like it had been at others. They were able to located the car offsite and get it all set up and ready for me to purchase. I'll definitely shop there again in the future.

The service was excellent. They went out of their way to make you feel comfortable at the showroom. The salesperson was not annoying, yet continued to follow up and contact me after the sale. They made the stressful experience of buying a car enjoyable. The financing was a piece of cake, as the salesperson did all of the work allowing me to just enjoy the experience.
