I bought my 2006 Jeep Commander, used, about 2 years ago. The Commander has a solid build to it, no rattles, jingles or jangles. The 7 passenger seating is great for the size of my family and got me out of buying the "Dad Van". The features that came with the car (electric windows, sunroof, heated seats and heated mirrors) have never failed me and have actually worked really well. There is no better feeling in the world then hopping in your vehicle in the dead of winter and having your seats warmed up in a very fast manner. One negative item with the vehicle is the shifter. My Commander is an automatic, but soon after I purchased the vehicle I ran into an issue with the shifter not making contact to the circuit board it's connected to underneath. After checking out the Jeep message boa... (more)
Story
We drove the Jeep Commander from Detroit, MI to Orlando, FL to take the family to Disney World. With the 7 person seating we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the ride. I thought taking that long of a drive with 3 kids would be miserable, but it was actually a really good time.
Pros
The 7 person seating is the most positive aspect of the vehicle for me. I needed a car that would fit my whole family, but didn't want to buy a van. The heated seats are also a nice feature I never thought I'd want in a vehicle. Now that I've had them, I'd really hate to lose them.
Cons
The issue I had with the shifter not making it's connections with the circuit board was a big problem for me. I didn't like having to fix that, especially after finding out it's a known issue and no recall had been made.

2007 Jeep Commander - It is pretty inside and out however there is a few to many mechanical flaws with this model.

The outside of the vehicle is very nicely built and is of a decent size. The inside if especially nice because of the room it has in each row. It is a decent size, not to large but not to small.
Story
One of my favorite memories of this vehicle is the day I purchased it. Me and my family really enjoyed the trip to get it and most of all the trip driving it home.
Pros
One thing I really like about the Jeep Commander is the backup feature it has. When backing up if you get to close something there is a beeper than will sound to let you know you are to close. I also like the three rows of seat and in the third row there is a air/heating controls.
Cons
There has been many recalls on this make/model. I have been driving down the road the car just cuts off. I have had the wheels lock up on me as I was backing down steep hill, which has to be the worst. I also don't like only getting 15 miles per gallon.

2007 Jeep Commander - Great vehicle with few flaws.

I love my Jeep Commander. I get all of the stability and longevity of a Jeep product, with the space of a full-sized SUV. This vehicle has driven my entire family across country many times and has never let me down. It has multiple alerts that let me know if there is ever a problem, and I can easily toggle through things I care about such as current mpg, miles left until empty, light and door alerts, tire pressure alerts, and different locking/unlocking options. All of these can be read in multiple different languages. This is a comfortable and versatile vehicle, great for a larger family.
Story
This vehicle is not a Wrangler. If you do not have the highest available options, you can and will get stuck. I have had to have my poor Jeep pulled out a few times from the Missouri mud.
Pros
The plethora of purchasable accessories (tow package, roof rack, etc.) means that even without a truck bed, I can tow and haul various items. The fold-down third row seating is great for hauling small loads or carrying extra passengers. The third row also comes equipped with personal climate controls that keep everyone comfortable, no matter the weather. The Commander has over-sized, heated mirrors, and the backup sensor means I can navigate well in a visually poor situation.
Cons
Small electrical problems, such as the motorized windows are jerky instead of smoothly ascending and descending. In slow traffic, using the climate controls in the third row can cause electrical malfunctions. It is too easy to turn the key into the neutral.
