I bought my 2006 Jeep Commander, used, about 2 years ago. The Commander has a solid build to it, no rattles, jingles or jangles. The 7 passenger seating is great for the size of my family and got me out of buying the "Dad Van". The features that came with the car (electric windows, sunroof, heated seats and heated mirrors) have never failed me and have actually worked really well. There is no better feeling in the world then hopping in your vehicle in the dead of winter and having your seats warmed up in a very fast manner. One negative item with the vehicle is the shifter. My Commander is an automatic, but soon after I purchased the vehicle I ran into an issue with the shifter not making contact to the circuit board it's connected to underneath. After checking out the Jeep message boa... (more)
Story
We drove the Jeep Commander from Detroit, MI to Orlando, FL to take the family to Disney World. With the 7 person seating we had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the ride. I thought taking that long of a drive with 3 kids would be miserable, but it was actually a really good time.
Pros
The 7 person seating is the most positive aspect of the vehicle for me. I needed a car that would fit my whole family, but didn't want to buy a van. The heated seats are also a nice feature I never thought I'd want in a vehicle. Now that I've had them, I'd really hate to lose them.
Cons
The issue I had with the shifter not making it's connections with the circuit board was a big problem for me. I didn't like having to fix that, especially after finding out it's a known issue and no recall had been made.

2007 Jeep Commander - It is pretty inside and out however there is a few to many mechanical flaws with this model.

The outside of the vehicle is very nicely built and is of a decent size. The inside if especially nice because of the room it has in each row. It is a decent size, not to large but not to small.
Story
One of my favorite memories of this vehicle is the day I purchased it. Me and my family really enjoyed the trip to get it and most of all the trip driving it home.
Pros
One thing I really like about the Jeep Commander is the backup feature it has. When backing up if you get to close something there is a beeper than will sound to let you know you are to close. I also like the three rows of seat and in the third row there is a air/heating controls.
Cons
There has been many recalls on this make/model. I have been driving down the road the car just cuts off. I have had the wheels lock up on me as I was backing down steep hill, which has to be the worst. I also don't like only getting 15 miles per gallon.

I absolutely love this vehicle, and I had wanted one for several years before I bought this one used. I live in a rural area, and I drive quite a bit. Between school, work, my kiddos' extracurricular activities, and road trips, I have put 190,000+ miles on this beast. She was in great condition when I bought her, and nearly everything on her is still original from the factory, even though she's a 2006 model. My three children and I love camping and hiking, and this vehicle can get us pretty much anywhere and back.
Story
A friend of mine and I went to Nashville to see a Phish show this summer, and we ended up meeting lots of people while we were out tailgating in the parking area. Tons of fun and we ended up camping right in the back of the Commander!
Pros
My Commander has plenty of space for my three kiddos and me, plus any equipment we want to take with us on our outdoor adventures. And there's plenty of room for taking their friends home after practice or to the movies. I'm a single mom, and I've always been resistant to the minivan-driving-mom stereotype--my Commander most definitely reflects my personality.
Cons
The only thing I'd change about the Commander is the amount of floor space that's in the back with the third row of seats. Because the spare tire is mounted beneath the vehicle, the very back is raised to allow for very little leg room when the seats are in use. I'd have the spare tire mounted to back like some of the other Jeep models to allow for more leg room.
