The vehicle is a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Sport. As most would expect from a Jeep, this is a solid and reliable vehicle. Its 4x4 system seems to be a tried and true flavor that works even when others might fail. The 4x4 system is lever-actuated and can be done while the vehicle is in motion. The suspension and remaining ride components all tend to feel more car-like than truck. A real positive for this one. The engine is an inline 6- which is unusual for this style of vehicle offered by other makers. 4.0 Liters give plenty of punch and pull from this mid-sized motor. On the downside, the motor originally gets fairly poor gas mileage. After year of use, it is significantly lower then original. I'd have to say that gas mileage is the single worst component of this Jeep. Currently it is getting... (more)
Story
I Went off-road where a larger and more capable truck failed!
Pros
Strong 4x4 Runs well even with much work needed on drive-train, etc.
Cons
Not a lot of interior space. Horrible gas mileage.

This car is listed as one of the ten cars that will never die. It is on that list for a reason. This is the second Cherokee I have owned. It is the only vehicle that I have ever purchased two of. The first one I purchased brand new, and this one was purchased second hand. First of all the visibility is the best of any vehicle I have ever owned. You don't feel like you are sitting down in a bucket. It is nimble, and it can be parked into the tightest spaces, as you have full awareness of the exterior body. I am a petite person, and the proportions of this jeep allow me to put items on the roof myself. The flat roof is ideal for carrying items, such as kayaks. The engine is bullet proof... Period. Easy to work on, parts and parts are cheap. I have the 5 speed manual transmission. When co... (more)
Story
I live on a dirt lane outside of Boston Massachusetts. One winter that lane was snowbound by a major snow fall, causing my neighbors and I to be stranded. My Cherokee was the only vehicle that could pass through. I was able to use it to pull a downed tree limb and get my neighbors out. Go Jeep!
Pros
Visibility Cargo area maneuverability Off-road capability Ground clearance Dependability
Cons
Rocker panels Harsh ride Electrical switches do tend to have problems Front end can develop problems

This vehicle is high quality and a comfortable ride. At almost 30,000 miles in two years, we spend a lot of time in the vehicle and it has held up to our cross state trekking. It can be a good commuter car but also a good long distance traveler that fits multiple people comfortably. It comfortably fits 5 people for a small trip, though I would not want 5 people in the car going a long distance. 2-3 people and luggage works well for longer distances. Such a perfect car that I can't wait to turn it in to get a newer model year version when my lease expires.
Story
Putting two dogs into the car after leaving a mud pit of a dog park. I had just purchased my seat covers thankfully but the two dogs still decided shaking mud everywhere and foot prints on the door was a good idea. I got a good laugh at them before realizing I had to clean it all up.
Pros
This vehicle is perfect for a couple with a medium size dog. We can fit any luggage or stuff we have to travel with, sit ourselves comfortably, and still give the dog complete room to stretch out. No major noises through this many miles. The vehicle has held up well. The 3.2L engine has great pickup and fulfills my inner speed demon.
Cons
A downside to the vehicle was being required to get the tan colored seats. The color shows everything, so anything from dog hair to dirt and even just daily use show up too well in this car. I am constantly vacuuming and have had to invest in specific seat covers to keep this from being a major problem.
