I really like my Jeep. I don't recall which level of the Patriot I have, but I do have navigation and leather interior, so it's a nicer model. I think it's built very well and runs well. It's roomy like you would expect from an SUV, but it has better gas mileage. I get about 22 miles to the gallon in town, and about 26-28 on the highway, which I think is awesome for a vehicle that looks like an SUV and is capable of towing. I did buy a hitch for my Jeep so I could tow, but I mainly use the hitch for a bike rack. The leather interior is nice and makes it easy to wipe off and keep clean. I don't even feel that it's a problem to ride in a wet bathing suit if unavoidable, as the seats dry very fast. The backseat is roomy, and I can comfortably have myself and 4 passengers in the car. I've ... (more)

I think what's fun about it is the sporty look of it. I can tow, transport a lot of camping gear, and it's a great looking vehicle that gets great gas mileage. On my first camping trip in it, I had to drive through trees down to the campsite and was able to maneuver it easily and even back out without hitting anything. I'm a Mom, so I always feel judged by the Dads on the camping trips. But, a... (more)
Pros
Towing capability, leather interior, stereo/navigation with touch screen, nice paint job, excellent gas mileage for an SUV.
Cons
Road noise too loud on the highway; complicated/unclear instructions for uploading picture files; not enough flexibility with putting back seat down to fit items in the back of the Jeep; had to buy after market floor mats to avoid messing up the carpeted ones that come with this Jeep.

My favorite thing about my Jeep Patriot is that it's fun to drive. It's up high, it's reliably good on dirt roads, and it's a little spit that zooms around. I enjoy driving my car each day, which I can't say for the cars I owned before. I like that my model is simple--no fancy gadgets, no stupid touch screens, just a solid car that runs well and looks nice. The hatch is surprisingly large and accommodates most objects I have to transport (I even moved out of my parents' house in my Patriot!). The most frustrating thing about my car is the synced phone system. It rarely works correctly; in fact, I enter each phone call fully expecting the call to drop from the Bluetooth system at any given moment. This prevents me from making any important phone calls while driving. Occasionally, the vo... (more)

One fun memory with my Jeep was when I accidentally ended up on a road that was torn up from construction and had to sort of off-road it for a while. Had a blast on all the dirt bumps. I wouldn't have been comfortable playing around like that in another car.
Pros
I enjoy a variety of things about this vehicle. First and foremost, I just love owning a Jeep. There's a history with the Jeep company and there's something fun about being a Jeep person. I like the look of the Patriot, since it reflects on the Jeep styles I grew up with. I enjoy the simplicity of my Patriot, since I don't have any of the obnoxious high-tech features that come with higher-end models. I'll never understand the purpose of having a touchscreen inside your car. I love the way my Jeep drives--always smooth. I love being able to tackle unexpected bumps in the road (literally) an... Cons
The number one more aggravating thing about this vehicle is the syncing Bluetooth phone system and the fact that it constantly does not work properly. Almost every time I'm on a call, the call will drop from the car speakers and switch to running through my phone, but the Bluetooth doesn't turn off and I have to manually switch it on the phone. It's beyond aggravating. I have other issues with this system, too, like the phone button occasionally not working (at all) or the car refuses to recognize my phone. Another frustration is that sometimes the AC/heat doesn't kick on right away. I hav... (more)

2008 Jeep Patriot - Great car except for the CVT transmission.

Overall, it's a nice little car that's very comfortable however, I feel that the main drawback is the CVT transmission. I had transmission issues with mine at only 70,000 miles so would be very hesitant to buy another. It's a cute car, attractive, sporty and functional but the CVT transmission, in my opinion, overrides the pros of this car.
Story
It's a fun vehicle to take to the beach and drive around in because it's cute and sporty.
Pros
It's an attractive, sporty looking little car that is very comfortable to ride in and drive. The heated leather seats, especially in the winter, are a great feature. The seats fold down in the back giving plenty of room. Even the front passenger seat folds flat in case you want to put something long in the car to transport it. It gets good gas mileage and is perfect for tooling around town. It's an inexpensive little car that has a lot of extra bells and whistles not usually found at that price point making it a great bargain.
Cons
As I mentioned above, I had issues with the CVT transmission at only 70,000 miles and after doing a Google search on the Jeep Patriot and transmission issues, I found that I wasn't the only one. Even after it was repaired, it still makes a whining sound which I was told was because of the CVT transmission. It tends to run very hot in the summer months as well which is another area of concern for me. Also, because it has a CVT transmission, the transmission fluid is a lot more expensive than regular transmission fluid making a preventative maintenance transmission flush very expensive.
