My Patriot Sport actually has the 2.4L 6-speed automatic FWD option, which was not one of the offerings in the review drop-down box. I previously owned a P/T Cruiser, which I loved and managed to keep for a few years and my son is now driving. I play music as an avocation, which means needing enough cargo space to hold a band's worth of gear (except the drums). I live in a congested area, so I must have an automatic, and I live in a hot humid area, so I must have A/C. Everything else is extra. Knowing that someday I would need to replace the P/T Cruiser, I began researching affordable wagons several years ago. Most of the reviews on the Patriot at the time were that it was underpowered and too Spartan for most of the reviewers, but those were the same demerits the P/T Cruiser earned wh... (more)

My 2014 Jeep Patriot Sport 4x4 is one of the best vehicles I have owned. I commute 1 hour to work on a daily basis up and down mountain roads with seasonal snow and inclement weather. The Jeep Patriot has handled everything I have thrown at it with just the basic maintenance requirements being kept up (i.e.; brakes, tires, oil). I drive mostly on roads and freeways however, I have often taken this vehicle off road in order to go hunting or camping and have never once gotten stuck or felt under powered. All in all it's been a wonderful vehicle that has great gas mileage, off road capability and the basic luxuries that we expect these days in a car. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who is looking for an affordable ride that can handle the elements as well as be a reliable commuter.
Story
I live up in the mountains and do a lot of camping and hunting in my area. There are a lot of beautiful trails near by and I have a vehicle that can get me there. One time I found myself on a very rough road with huge divots and lots of mud. I was genuinely worried about whether or not I would make it through but that little Jeep Patriot surprised me with its handling of the situation. I went ... (more)
Pros
SAFETY. On my way home from work one night I hit a deer traveling at about 70 mph on the highway, The Jeep Patriot not only absorbed all the impact from the deer, it stayed operational and allowed me to drive to a safe location before calling for a tow truck. It was a large deer and caused $8,200 worth of damage but I was completely unscathed. Not only was I not hurt, but the vehicle's safety features worked perfectly. Recognizing the animal was a soft barrier and not deploying the air bags saved my car from being totaled while still protecting me from the impact. Besides safety, the gas m... (more)
Cons
The only negative thing about this vehicle would be the lack of get up and go power from the engine. I have the upgraded 2.4L 4 cylinder and it still feels like a risk when you need to pull out in front of traffic. Once you're up to speed there are no issues but the initial acceleration is a little slow. I would only suggest people to get the 4x4 package with the upgraded 2.4L engine if they were entertaining this vehicle. If they do not need 4x4 and wanted to save money with the smaller engine, they would probably be better off with a Honda Civic or something of that nature.
