My addiction started out innocently enough. We were drinking, barbecuing and having a good time at a friends when I first learned of "Kermit" my soon to be reason for working. I purchased this baby for $200 with a blown engine, easy enough right? Soon after buying, I had scouted an engine off a rollover, threw it in my other '98 Grand Cherokee, and I was off to the races. This car has a V8 5.2 Liter. It's not the needle in the haystack 5.9, but it was fast enough to dump check. Every mod I made on this thing was easy due to the spacious engine bay. Every thing in the car was a necessity -- no need for fancy stuff. This is a workhorse -- no more no less. I knew what I was getting into. So first things first, I got it running and performed maintenance (which btw is freaking simple, oil/p... (more)
Story
I think the most fun was overtaking everyone on I-70 up to go snowboarding, It was snowing pretty bad and no one was able to keep up with the tires I had. I was sailing through the snow like it was a sunny day. It's the little things like getting me up on the slopes to maximize lift ticket utlilization. I also like racing little sedans. This car was a sleeper until I put the flowmaster 40 on i... (more)
Pros
Easy to work on. No need to raise the vehicle to change oil or access undercarriage. No fancy gizmos. This is back to basics...the way old school cars were. No part on here is expensive with the sole exception of sensors, but that's always a given. There are tons of these things on the road. Break off a side view mirror? Get one dirt cheap at the junk yard. Want to "Pimp Yo Ride"? Everything under the sun can be upgraded.
Cons
Gas mileage. This thing can suck your wallet dry. Do not buy this car if you're a delivery driver -- unless you live in a real remote/snowy/muddy place, you won't even break even. It's very simple, thus it's an easy target for thieves. I have had a stereo stolen and the car stolen -- all with locked doors. I can break into this car and start it in five minutes. Get a car alarm and a steering wheel lock. It's pretty heavy. Pushing this thing alone is a pain. It's no sedan so always enjoy with friends with muscles just in case! The trannys on this model are bad. When it slips, it's time to s... (more)

I drove my jeep for 3 years on a very rough road. Dirt, gravel with deep holes and ruts. It has plenty of power to deal with the mud in rainy weather and has great suspension to make the rough terrain fun and an easy ride. Love driving it and able to drive pretty fast on bad roads without feeling like you are being beat to death by bumps, holes and washboards. It is just a pleasure to drive and ride in. It has plenty of power to go where other SUV's just cannot get to or through. It will take a hill in pretty deep mud and snow. It was like no problem to get home in the worst of weather. Living 6 miles off road in the desert we tested its durability in the worst conditions possible. And getting home after a week of rain on my muddy road was sometimes a big challenge before we added grav... (more)
Story
the one story I continually get teased about is that I have a tendency to drive the jeep pretty fast on our dirt/gravel road in good weather. A coworker was driving parallel to my road on the interstate and he teases me that I was driving faster on my horrible road than he was on the interstate. Now I am pretty sure he was exaggerating just a bit. But, I do drive it pretty fast due to the grea... (more)
Pros
The top things about this vehicle is that it is tough and has all the power you need to get out of difficult situations. I live out in the desert and the dirt roads turn to slippery slime. Having a vehicle with the power to get out of the mud and get home in the rainy season is wonderful. The suspension and smooth ride is also pure luxury on these bumpy road. It is also a very fun ride. I could drive at pretty fast speeds on a bad road and has the ability to get you where you want to go. The fun part is that you could see how many mpg you were using as you drive, has many bells and whistle... (more)
Cons
The last year of driving we had to replace the fuel pump. To do so you have to remove the whole gas tank as it is inside the tank. Not that is so difficult to do and the thing is we got a bad fuel pump was defective. So to get it running properly it was having to remove the gas tank 2 times. A very costly repair. Other negative thing is that it did not get good gas mileage yet with the amount of power for rough driving I don't mind too much. The appearance on the wheels of the alloy rims have a tendency to pit and discolor. For looks you'd want to replace them with a nicer wheel.
