When I bought this car, I was very excited. It was the best designed crossover SUV at the time. I compared it mainly with Honda CR-V, and found that Mazda was much more of a "driver's car." It is more stylish, good looking and exciting than the CR-V, which basically drives like a small school bus. Inside and out Mazda CX-5 is an exciting automobile. It just makes you want to get into it and go for a ride. At the same time, it's sensible with a big trunk that you could really use when you have to transport a family.
Story
I had to cross the Canadian border in a car with temporary license plates going back south on the night of hurricane Sandy at 2 am. I got some strange looks from the Canadian border guards, and the car was thoroughly searched.
Pros
Design is what sets Mazda CX-5 apart in its class and price range. If you compare it to Honda or Toyota, hands down Mazda is the better looking vehicle. Interior is more tailored to the driver as well. It feels more like a car than a truck, at the same time, allowing a good field of vision. Everything is within reach, comfortable to operate. The gas millage is comparable to a compact. The interior trim is done very nicely.
Cons
Small 2.0 engine (as a tradeoff to the gas mileage) offers a bit weak acceleration. Touch screen with no feedback (vibration) is too distracting to operate while driving. This car has not been time-tested, as the model I got was the first time this design came out, so not sure how it will hold up three to five years from now.

I like the car overall - all the features blend together to form a car that is solid. Driving the base model, the Mazda performs admirably well, regardless of the where you are. Fuel efficient, sporty, and has plenty of room for whatever you need. Having driven this car for 10k miles, this car is perfect whether you're going grocery shopping, or going on a long drive. It has a standard mode for driving as well as a sport mode for those that need to get somewhere in a hurry. The car is well built, reliable, and all the qualities one can hope for. Is it a Ferrari? No - but for an SUV that can get you from point A to point B in comfort, this is the car for you.
Story
I made record time to the hospital with this car when my daughter was being born. Sport mode is no a joke.
Pros
It's a comfortable and sporty ride. Sport mode is fun to use.
Cons
There is a little tray in the center console. It's handy, but a pain in the butt if you need to root around looking for something.

Car was advertised with a tech package. It didn't have one. They put in a review camera + a new high tech head unit free of charge.
