I loved the small compact size of it. I also loved how reliable it is and decent on gas. What I disliked greatly is the pick up. Extremely slow.
Story
The best time I've had was a road trip to North Carolina. I'm from New York, so it was a 10-hour drive. I stopped by each state. Enjoyed the local views, the local food, and tourist spots. It did decent with gas. Filled up four times total. My only issue was on local streets in small towns I blew through gas. It was more expensive to go through small towns. It's not the most efficient on gas, ... (more)
Pros
I loved the fold down seats and large truck storage. Also for an older SUV, it is still good on gas. It seats high, so even for a tall person, it fits comfortably a taller person. It has great turning power and good breaks. It also being a some what smaller vehicle seats two baby cars seats beautifully with room in between both seats for a parent to sit between two children. The start up remote esp. since it was made in 2005, still works and is a lifesaver. I live in the northeast, and winters can be brutal so this feature was key esp. traveling with two children and always strapped for time.
Cons
It's an excellent SUV for small light weight camping, fishing, basic outdoor activities. Other activities are a bit harder to bring this SUV with. Going off roading would be near impossible. I also live in an area where we have a lot of salt in the air. Salt destroyed the muffler within a couple of years of owning it. The pick up is slow. If you needed to move very quickly by initiating speed this would not be the SUV you would shoes takes a good few seconds and pressing down on the gas harder than any other car I've driven to speed quickly. The paint also chipped and rusted quicker than e... (more)

We chose to purchase the Mazda Tribute because we were able to negotiate an excellent price for a small SUV at the time. Initially, we were please with it, although the vehicle did seem very sluggish for it's size. But we attributed that the small engine. The vehicle did perform well but did not hold up as well as previous Mazdas we have owned.
Story
We had the best vacation driving across Nova Scotia with our Mazda Tribute. We had ample room to carry all of our camping equipment and personal items for a two week trip.
Pros
We purchased the vehicle at year end for a good price. The Tribute achieved excellent gas mileage for an SUV. It was a fairly comfortable ride. And had plenty of storage space for all of our gear. We especially liked the way the vehicle looked with the optional luggage rack on top.
Cons
The vehicle was always very sluggish and slow to respond. The steering was chunky. And the standard sound system for sub-optimal by a long shot. As we were buying at year end, we were not able to get all of the features we would have liked, such as a sunroof and remote starter. We also found the Mazda dealers' service centers to be a bit hit or miss for maintenance.
