The 2009 Mazda 3 is one of the best cars I have ever owned. The build quality is fantastic, as I have driven this car for about 35,000 miles and have had no major mechanical issues. The 2.3L engine provides superb acceleration, and its turning radius is fantastic. The steering is responsive and road noise is minimal. The stereo is very clear with great bass, and the little touches of displaying "hello" on the dash when you start the car is a fun little feature. The major issue I have with the car is due to the sporty suspension, the ride is a little bumpy, and the low-profile tires will not absorb as much of the bumps. These low profile tires will be an expensive replacement in the future. The fuel economy is average with a range around 25-30 miles per gallon. I also wish there we... (more)
Story
I drove this car across country and on winding mountain roads. I really enjoyed the grip and handling of this car.
Pros
My favorite features of this vehicle are the acceleration and stopping capabilities of the car. The 2.3L engine is the most powerful vehicle I have ever owned. There is no tire lock when braking and no torque steer when aggressively accelerating. This car also has good gas mileage with about 30 mpg in mixed driving conditions. The turning radius is small, and the steering is very responsive. There is little road noise, and the car provides ample feedback which makes you feel connected to the road. The paint is high quality, and after nearly nine years, there is no sign of fade or peeling... (more)
Cons
There are some serious cons to be considered, however. The low ground clearance will make getting in and out of this car somewhat difficult. The natural seat position makes long-haul driving less comfortable, as my back and legs will get stiff after a few hours. When I got this car, I found some folded duct tape shoved between some interior panels, which indicates that those panels will rattle, which means some fit and finish improvements are desired. I recently tried to replace the headlights on this, car but I could not do it myself, as my hands were too big to fit into the small spac... (more)

This car has been reliable and dependable throughout the time that I have had it. I have not always treated it the best, but it is still riding smooth after five years and 130K miles. This car is also great on gas and has a lot of giddy up and go. I've used this vehicle to move twice, and this is not a large car, but it withstood loading of a split queen box spring like a champ!
Story
I got my very first speeding ticket in this car. While driving to the beach with my family, I didn't even realize how fast I was going. The ride was that smooth and handled that well. I definitely earned my ticket that day.
Pros
The gas mileage and low maintenance.
Cons
The backseat is pretty small. This car would not be great for families unless they had small children, in which case child seats may still be a problem.
