2001 Oldsmobile Alero - Has held up beyond my expectations
When I bought the car, I was looking for something basic to get me back and forth to work. While it isn't a remarkable looking car, it has held up surprisingly well, even better than I originally imagined. I have never had to do any major repairs on it, such as transmission, engine, or anything else. I have even put over three hundred thousand miles on the car, and it is still running with no signs of quitting soon.
Story
My dad and I used to cruise around in my car in the summer. We would roll down the windows and sing loudly to country music. Sometimes we would get drinks from Sonic as well. These are some of my favorite memories with my dad.
Pros
This car is extremely reliable. It has never quit working or even failed to start. The gas mileage that I get is remarkable for a larger, four-door car as well. People riding with me have commented that there is plenty of leg and head room in the car as well. It is a very smooth ride, and the stereo system is excellent as well. I plan to keep this car until it no longer works, because it is the most cost effective car that I have ever owned.
Cons
While there have not been major repairs needed, about once a year, this car will have something minor go wrong with it that needs to be repaired or updated. Usually these are just small, annoying things. For example, I had the window motor go out last year. While it didn't really affect the car's functionality, it was an irritation. Also, the interior of the car is somewhat plain compared to other cars this age.
2001 Oldsmobile Alero - It gets me from point A to point B
I bought my vehicle from my dad in 2011. The car seemed to run well fro a very long time. I had the oil changed regularly and that seemed to make the car feel better. There has always been this rubbing sound that could possibly be a loose belt. All in all, the car works and I have only had to make one major costly repair on it, and that was replacing the fuel pump.
Story
I have taken this car on countless amounts of road trips to the mountains to go hiking.
Pros
This car has very comfortable seating front and back. The drivers seat is controlled by buttons which helps me get into the most comfortable driving position. I really like the size of the gas tank- bout 12 gallons. It is affordable to fill up and you get the gas mileage that is appropriate. I really enjoy the cruise control settings in the car, this makes it easy to travel on the highway.
Cons
The cars stock headlights were so dim at night that I had to replace them just to feel safe driving at night. Also, a part of the trim in the front broke and there is no goo way to fix it. This cars defrosting settings are the worst that I have ever seen. I have to have the car on for about twenty minutes to get the car to heat up. This is extremely inconvenient because I live in a place where snow falls at least four months out of the year.
