This Prius delivers great fuel economy in a reliable, versatile package. It averages 50+ miles per gallon overall. It routinely exceeds its 48 mpg highway rating when fully loaded with my family of four, our luggage and gear in the cargo area on road trips in summer heat using the A/C or in the cold using the heating system. We have had no mechanical issues or repairs -- merely regular wear and tear replacements like the tires and 12-volt battery over nearly six years and 66,000 miles to date of ownership.
Story
The wackiness of trying to get the car to understand voice commands and the occasional failure to understand any of us -- along with the navigation system once insisting our destination was reachable via a right turn directly through an off-ramp’s ditch.
Pros
The fantastic fuel economy and stellar reliability are highlights of ownership, and we also appreciate the back-up camera for added rear visibility when backing out of parking spaces or driveways. The cargo area is roomy to hold our family’s luggage when traveling or haul home gardening or warehouse club stock ups or various IKEA purchases.
Cons
How some people react to it on the road or in general when they learn we own a Prius. We’ve encountered the mistaken assumption by others that a hybrid car is a fire hazard or more prone to catching fire than a conventional vehicle. Also, the aggressiveness of pickup or large SUV drivers who think it’s their call in life to tailgate or cut off Prius drivers. Also those who think it’s un-American to drive a hybrid instead of acknowledging global warming. They think saving gas decreases reliance on fossil fuels and foreign oil.

I bought this car used with over 120,000 miles on it and it was still running as if it was brand new. Having researched these cars before buying, I knew that the hybrid battery could go bad at any time. Unfortunately this came true, but after a simple $1000 battery exchange she is running brand new once again. One thing that really surprised me with this car was the storage space. I do a lot of out door activities and by folding down the back seat I can fit a ton of camping supplies and even my Trek FX 7.2 Bicycle. I have attached multiple roof racks and trunk racks without problem. One thing that stinks about this car is that it does not have an MP3 input jack, instead it has a tape deck. This is just a result of the year it was built, but it is still a minor inconvenience. One thing ... (more)
Story
One fun memory is when I went to pick up my new bike from the local bike store. I had a trunk rack installed, ready to go, but then it was raining. The salesman helped me to lower my back seats and we got the bike in without a problem!
Pros
Storage Space GREAT Gas mileage Reliable
Cons
Outdated Stereo System Outdated GPS
