Reliable, low-maintenance
My vehicle is nearly 8 years old and has only required typical maintenance to it - oil changes, new tires, wiper blades, etc making the operating cost about $0.03/mile. The vehicle itself has held up very well for its age and still is in very good condition - no rust, no engine issues, no door rattles, etc. It also is a XRS, meaning it has an improved engine over the standard Corolla trims - which means gas mileage suffers a bit, but it's more fun to drive. The radio is also slightly improved because of its trim line, however, I have replaced the back and front speakers due to some rattle in them. It'd be nice if there was an AWD option, but Toyota isn't known for sedans with that. Have only had issues with snow once, and that was with a very large snowstorm and lack of timely plowing in my condo complex.

Very reliable, handles well
The car has a very simple style, yet it looks nice and functional. The seats are comfortable and have worn well over the years (no holes have worn into them at all). There is plenty of leg space regardless of which seat you sit in, and the cup holders are all conveniently placed. The trunk of the car is much more spacious than I originally thought it would be; it can fit a number of tools and other items, including a kayak paddle, a life vest, blankets, and many other things. I've hardly ever had to take it to a mechanic (and when I did it was mostly for regular maintenance). The gas mileage is good.

Reliability on a budget.
I bought this vehicle when I lived in Minnesota, it will start at the coldest temperatures on the very first try (-20 and less). It is a comfortable car, the back seats three but is not roomy. This car takes a few minutes to heat up in extreme cold, and take a bit to cool off in summer. It's noisy, and you can hear the road and outside noise, but it's relatively inexpensive so I got used to it. The trunk is roomy, you'll have to be careful when loading it though as the lid of the trunk will close on you on it's own, cracking your head and it really hurts! There is an alarm to let you know when the car is sliding/skidding, but it does not autocorrect.
