2013 Volkswagen Jetta - The GLI is fun but expensive to fix.
I bought a 2013 VW Jetta GLI in the summer of 2015. I didn't realize at the time that it would be pretty addicting to drive. It's not the fastest (by far), and it's not the roomiest, but it just goes—especially on back roads.
Story
Heading down a steep road in the snow, losing traction, and pulling a full three rotations before righting exactly in the proper direct on the proper side of the road. Phew!
Pros
It has launch control, and while it's not perfect, I prefer it to the old fashioned methods of launching from a dead stop. It also makes it easier to take off on wet roads. The headlights on it are also great, especially for rural areas. We have a lot of deer, and these project well off the sides of the road when the high beams are on. The seats feel secure enough. VW seats are always hit-or-miss for long trips. I'm a bony person, so naturally I find them quite nice.
Cons
I can't stand VW's touchscreen "do everything" entertainment console nonsense, but once I got up to speed, it was serviceable. The Bluetooth is really annoying to pair, at least for me.
1998 Volkswagen Jetta - Hunk of junk
I bought the vehicle used and it had a ton of issues. The electrical was a nightmare and half the interior lights didn't work, the car stalled when it rained and it was not great in snow. The car shape and style appealed to me.
Story
Driving to the beach with the sunroof open jamming out!
Pros
I liked having s sunroof and the overall style of car. It also got pretty good gas mileage. I like how you could insert the key and the Windows would roll down on the winter. I also felt like owning a Volkswagen was a prestigious thing!
Cons
Everything motor and electrically. It wasn't an easy car for mechanics to work on and friends refused to touch it. The electric was all messed up and I couldn't drive it in the rain.
