Appleton, WI Driving Tips
Driving in this area is really not bad. I was in graduate school in a large city, and I swore that when I left there I would never complain about traffic in small-town Appleton. If my commute is heavy on a given day, that typically means it is about five minutes longer than a normal day. There is drunk driving, especially around bar close, so I try to avoid driving around then. However, typically the roads are safe. It is pretty easy to get anywhere, because you can always just take the highway, which runs straight through the middle of the area. There are side streets that you get to know as you become more familiar with the area. In winter, roads can get bad from snow and ice, but the cities are pretty good about getting them cleaned up. In summer, there is always a ton of construction, so my biggest advice would be to slow down in construction areas. If everyone followed the construction zone speed limits, there would hardly be any slow down.
Appleton, WI Buying Tips
Everyone in this area knows that Bergstrom rules the car industry. There are literally lots all over the highway, as far south and as far north as the area goes. The problem with Bergstrom dealers is that they are extremely pushy. After visiting one when my husband and I were looking for a car, and getting three or four follow-up calls a day even after we said we were not interested, we vowed to never buy from a Bergstrom. It can be tough though, to get away from them. They own lots for every type of car you could ever want, and they own new and used lots. I remember seeing a small used lot, and we thought it seemed like the perfect place to go, until we saw a small Bergstrom sign under a used car lot sign. I would rather pay a little more and buy from someone else, but you will have to do a little searching. There are family owned and small lots, but definitely not as predominate as Bergstrom. Milwaukee is only an hour and a half or so away, so I would not even mind driving that far to stay away from the pushy dealers at Bergstrom. Searching Craigslist or car websites might be a good idea for someone trying to find a car in the area, just to get a feel for what is out there before actually physically looking.
Favorite driving memory
My favorite memory driving in this city is when my husband and I were driving around looking for our first apartment. We were new to the area, and both of us had just gotten jobs around here. It is my favorite memory because everything seemed so new and exciting. We were driving past all sorts of new restaurants, stores, parks, and hiking trails that we had not been to before, and we were getting excited to begin our life here together. We were not sure where we were going to live, so we were just driving around, looking for desirable places that would be in between where we both worked. I remember being so excited, thinking that this was actually our home. We were getting married about a month after that, and I had been living 400 miles away, so that made this time especially exciting because we would finally be living together, and we would finally be married. This is a really family friendly area, so I felt like it was really a place that we could raise a family and settle down.

Information I would provide is there are a lot of pot holes, so be careful. I would go to Bergstrom for a car dealerships. Cars.Com would be the way to go.
Favorite driving memory
My favorite memory from driving in the city is not actually of me driving, but my mom. We lived 1 hour away and almost every weekend we would drive to Appleton to go shopping, have fun, do fun things like that. The whole atmosphere of Appleton is amazing and I enjoy living and driving around in the city. I feel safe all the time.
Favorite road
College Ave. I enjoy driving in many places in Appleton but my favorite is driving down town College Ave. I has to much character and flair! I love seeing all the people walking, all the shops and of course the bars. At night all the lights are lit up and fun to see all the excitement happening. Another reason it is my favorite is because there are times when they actually close the street down to do fall festivals or famers market.
