The Chevy Cavalier is small enough to fit anywhere I want to take it, yet large enough inside for all passengers to feel comfortable. This car has required very little maintenance, and any repairs have been straight forward to complete. The fact that the back seats fold down provides for extra storage space for camping trips and for transporting large or bulky items.
Story
We've used this car for many day trips and for overnight camping adventures. Even though it has a small frame and appears to be a family car, we treat it like a pick up. By folding the backseats down, we toss in tent gear, bicycles, whatever we need for outdoor adventures, and feel comfortable that we won't get stuck along the way.
Pros
The Chevy Cavalier has a sporty look that makes it stand out in traffic. With the automatic transmission we were able to use it as a training car for beginning drivers, yet it was fully equipment for experienced drivers to feel comfortable on long-distance trips.
Cons
When our family grew and we needed to add a third car seat for the baby to ride in back, it made the existing car seats feel cramped. We were able to eliminate this problem by purchasing seat-belt extenders. Once the extenders were in place there were no more problems with the older children being able to buckle themselves in while the baby was in the center position.

1999 Chevrolet Cavalier - Good, reliable car with plenty of room for a small vehicle.

The Chevy Cavalier looked good enough, but what really shined was the gas mileage. I would get an average of 30 mpg. I do quite a bit of driving for work and to see my kids who live half the time over an hour away. It never let me down. One surprising thing about the Cavalier: I am a musician, and play multiple instruments in one show. I could fit my wife, two kids, two guitars, a cable bin, a full size 88 key weighted keyboard, laptop bag, microphone stands and various other pieces of gear all at once in this car!
Story
My kids thought it was like a sports car! I knew different but they would feel super cool driving around in daddy's Cavalier.
Pros
The gas mileage was great and the car was extremely reliable. It was very comfortable to drive and the air conditioning always blew cold. The Cavalier would start right up in cold weather or hot, and the level of comfort was higher than I expected for a used economy car.
Cons
The transmission shifter cable connector broke at the transmission (under the hood), but I zip tied it together and never had a problem. It is a common issue with those model years. The rubber connector crumbles away in the Florida heat. When the water pump failed, it caused a few other issues like shooting metal shards into the crankshaft, among other smaller things.

This dealership honored a price that was incorrectly advertised in the newspaper, saving me around $5,000 from the actual list price.
