Has served well.
The 2007 Nitro was purchased used with 67 miles. It had been used in an auto show by Chrysler and had to be sold as used. It was a terrific buy. I chose the vehicle to take to Mexico because of it's rugged construction, interior capacity, It is the SLT model with 4 wheel drive. Came with many nice features for the time. Bluetooth phone connection. Tire monitoring system with PSI for each tire, and a nice information center.(even told me when my brake light bulb was out. It now has 120,000 miles. It has had a few minor problems, but overall has served very well. Never once to a dealer for warranty work. It is one of the few SUV's in it's class that was built on a frame. Most of the others are based on a car chassis. The ride is a bit rougher, but it is a more solid vehicle with a better towing capacity. Problems have included 2 broken inside door handles. (Chrysler improved the design on the replacement parts) A bad window power switch after 3 years. (I was able to replace myself so only a parts cost) And a CV joint seal going bad on the 4 wheel drive driveshaft. (the most expensive repair to date). The maintenance program I follow is 10k miles or 1 year oil change (with full synthetic oil) New factory belt and hoses every 5 years. Change transmission fluid at 90,000 miles. New tires every 50,000 miles. Flush radiator every 5 years.

Good Engine
I bought the car brand new. Loved it. It was the ONLY manual transmission SUV I could find. After the extended warranty ran out I was faced with a ton of problems. The emergency brake has failed numerous times. It has been fixed and fixed and fixed and I'm not throwing any more money at it. In a manual transmission, this is very important to have, but I make due without (no parking on hills). Then all four window motors went out at the same time. At $300 a piece this was an expensive repair. Something in the electrical system has been going on that causes the fuses to blow and the tail lights to physically melt in the cases. Again too expensive to track down for this many miles on the car. Then there's the known issue in the transmission gears that causes the car to slip out of 1st gear when under pressure. This is fun on hills. This can cause the car to stall out when pulling out into traffic and a real hazard. Dodge is aware of the issue but is not issuing a safety recall.
