The last generation Honda Prelude is a gifted, though eccentric, sports coupe. Developed through previous generations as a test-bed for Honda technology, this last iteration continues the trend, showcasing the ATTS superior handling system (Type-SH) driven by the spunky 200HP H22A motor. In addition to the vehicle's performance, the angled looks of the car body has always been an attractive sight to see. Unfortunately though, the car is simply a coupe, and a small one at that. Practicality suffers, as the backseats are nearly useless, and usable space within the car is fairly low overall. If you can get past the practicality issues, the car drives and handles quite well, and has always been fun for me.
Historia
Miraculously being able to fit all party supplies in the car (some items were hanging out of the trunk) to relocate a party late one night.
A Favor
The top positive things about the last generation Prelude are it's superior handling characteristics, body styling, and motor.
En Contra
The largest cons for the Prelude would be it's lack of interior space, and higher maintenance costs as the car ages.

1999 Honda Prelude - Sleek and practical

I feel as though the build of the Prelude is solid as the infrastructure can take a few bumps and bruises but continues on like a champion. It has over 180,000 miles, and I have never had any major issues aside from little parts here and there, which are expected from an older vehicle. The acceleration is quite responsive, and it feels smooth driving with regular maintenance. Since it is a Honda, it is quite reliable as I have had it for over four years with very minor issues to this point. The fuel it takes is premium, but for the top model of its class it makes sense. The outside style is a bit boxy, but that is my preferred look. The front end is a bit longer with cube styled headlights, and the rear is a bit shorter with a small spoiler. I like the look because it is similar to the... (more)
Historia
My most memorable story is the first story I had with this car. I've always wanted a Prelude, and once I found it, I had to get it right away. Only problem was I wasn't all too familiar with driving stick at the time, so once I purchased the vehicle, I actually stalled plenty of times on the way home.
A Favor
For a H22 engine, I felt that the fuel economy was rather practical, even though it only takes premium fuel. I enjoyed the smooth ride of the vehicle as the acceleration was receptive, and the engine has held up to this point. I enjoy the all black interior of the vehicle, and the bucket seats where when sitting you kind of sink in. The trunk is quite spacious as well, which seems deceptive as the rear of the vehicle is quite shorter in comparison to other vehicles.
En Contra
The way the car was built in terms of accessibility is quite lacking. The oil plug is quite difficult to get to and equally difficult to remove/replace as there is not space to do so without a solid wrench or a special socket set. One other minor con is that the drink holder is directly behind the shifter, and it makes it quite difficult to shift if there is any drink in the center. The drink holder is merely a plastic slider so it is not reliable nor safe in my opinion to put any drinks that have the opportunity of spilling in there.

2001 Honda Prelude - This vehicle is very reliable and it is enjoyable to drive, with decent gas mileage.

This vehicle is very reliable and it is enjoyable to drive, with decent gas mileage. The vehicle is over 15 years old and has barely had maintenance on it, but it still runs and performs very well. When I first got it I had to get used to how low it sits in traffic, and it is difficult to see ahead on the road. The seating is adequate, as I do not have children to carry around, but this vehicle is a great coupe. The trunk space is very generous considering the size of the vehicle. The ride quality is very comfortable and I have enjoyed travelling in trips over 1,000 miles.
Historia
I once squeezed 3 people, 1 adult cat, 6 kittens and 2 large dogs in the vehicle for a 800 mile trip across multiple states. During this trip, the vehicle was also packed with a lot of luggage. The vehicle had no problems, but it wasn't very comfortable!
A Favor
The moon roof/sun roof combination is incredibly convenient. I enjoy the cruise control and all power doors, windows and locks. The performance of the engine is incredible and I have no issues when I need to negotiate slower traffic. The gas mileage is great for the level of power the engine provides. The overall vehicle size is great for parking in tight spaces. The vehicle provides a good level of comfort for long trips on the road. I am beyond satisfied with the trunk space available.
En Contra
The automatic transmission has mechanical problems, and is noted by the manufacturer. It has been replaced already at 100,000 miles, but it is already beginning to go bad and the car is around 150,000 miles now. This is a troublesome area. The paint on the outside weather-stripping for the doors is peeling off, exposing bare metal. The stock CD player is beginning to die and the volume knob is about 25% reliable at this point. I would have bought a manual transmission version of this vehicle if I knew better before buying the automatic transmission version.
