Just ok...A bit frustrating
I use the Jeep Patriot primarily as a work vehicle. It is a decent car and gets the job done but it is very basic and doesn't have many great features. It has been reliable and has require minimal maintenance after 150,000 miles. The biggest head ache is with the CVT Transmission. On long trips the transmission overheat light comes on and the transmission will fail to work as I have to pull over to let the car cool. This has been a problem with this transmission and is very frustrating. I have taken it in to the dealer and they basically just say, "yeah that happens". It does not feel safe on long trips.
For driving around town it is a good car and has ample space, so I would recommend for such uses but going on long trips I would hesitate, especially if you will be going up any hills or steep grades, the rpms need to be kept under 3,000 or else the transmission acts up. I have a family of four and we fit fine in it but it cannot fit a fifth person(adult) with two child seats in the back.

The main reason I bought this model SUV was because it had the some of the highest safety ratings at the time. While I have not had an occasion to test whether the rollover ratings were accurate, I have had excellent experience driving this vehicle in all types of weather to include snow and ice. The maintenance on the vehicle has been very low. So far outside of the usual maintenance, the only problem I have had so far is the serpentine belt and the pulley system on it had to be replaced.

She's dependable.
The Jeep Patriot seats 5 comfortably and has been extremely dependable. I chose white due to the desert heat, but it doesn't have a trim package which makes it look a little nondescript.
