The 2011 Nissan Leaf is the perfect city car. It is smooth and silent. There is no engine to make noise and it is the perfect stress reliever after a long day at work. The fit and finish are top notch as well and the seats are the most comfortable I've ever sat in. The only real drawback is the lack of range and battery degradation.
Historia
I have fun on hilly twisty roads. You can put the car in neutral and let it coast for a long time.
A Favor
The most positive thing about the car is NO GAS! That's right, just plug it in when you get home and have a fully charged car in a few hours. It also requires very little maintenance. It is has the smoothest acceleration, no engine winding up or transmission shifting gears. Effortless all the way around.
En Contra
The worst parts of this car are the range and degradation of the battery. The range on a full charge when new is around 75 miles. Also over time the capacity of the battery degrades and now I get about 50 miles on a full charge. Also the backseat could have a little more room.

In 2011, Nissan took a bold step and launched the LEAF. It was a true electric vehicle. It had no engine, only batteries. It could go, in the real world, approximately 70 miles without needing to recharge. It was a car that I had to have! There is much talk about "range anxiety." But with just a bit of planning (and almost five years later), there has been no problems with running out of battery power. One detail that most won't appreciate, until they drive an EV, is how quiet the car is, and how wonderful this makes it to drive. The overall appearance of the car is designed with wind reduction in mind, but it turned out to be a distinctive, good looking vehicle. It has excellent power, a very good build quality, and I've been very happy with the Nissan LEAF.
Historia
Through my LEAF, I have met several other LEAF owners, and have enjoyed the common discussion about our LEAFs. Many times, while using one of the public chargers, people will come up and ask about the LEAF, and I enjoy telling them the information.
A Favor
There are many features of the vehicle, but the lack of engine noise has become the one I like the most, as it is what people are exposed to every minute they are driving. As somebody who does my own maintenance, and even for those who bring their car in, the LEAF requires virtually no maintenance other than tire rotation. The huge long-term benefit is that as the car ages, and the batteries become less effective, it is a realistic option to simply get new batteries. Instead of the financial hit from buying a new (or really even used) vehicle to replace a vehicle that has gotten old, the L... (more)
En Contra
No "con" could exist without mentioning "the batteries." Unfortunately, Nissan didn't test the batteries enough, and with the early models the batteries suffered severe degradation. Nissan, to their credit, has offered a warranty replacement with upgraded batteries that are being installed in all new LEAFs, and which don't degrade as quickly. Some would say a limited range is a "con," and it would be until you get to understand driving an electric vehicle. I have just changed to accommodate the limitation, and it has not proven to be a problem.
