To me, this iteration of the 88 model represents Olds' last days as a "classy" if dated marque. It's a relatively simple car, with a few subtle touches (such as stimulated wood grain - totally high brow back in the day) that bump it squarely into the middle class, middle market bracket Olds traditionally occupied. However, 'the under the hood' components unfortunately are showing their age.
Historia
Surprisingly, driving it around in the snow. It held/holds the road well and the climate control system keeps the inside nice and comfy even in the nightmarishly dark, cold winters for which the upper Midwest is infamous.
A Favor
You can tell the surface-level design and finish of the 88 LS are a notable smidge above average, even 20+ years on. The ride is quiet and almost startlingly smooth, the interior is every bit as roomy as the car's size might imply, trunk space is equally generous, and the seats are comfortable if less than supportive (or maybe that's just my bad back speaking). The power functions work smoothly, and the ample courtesy lights are a handy touch. The acceleration and braking are surprisingly responsive, and the large amount of glass all around the cabin makes for great and almost effortless v... (more)
En Contra
The maintenance and reliability issues. I get it - it's a 20 year old car that's mostly if not entirely spent its life in a cold and generally miserable climate. It would be weird -but nice!- if there weren't a few metaphorical fires to put out every so often. However, having to spend $3000 to get the rusted, profusely leaking fuel lines replaced with custom made parts because none of the stock replacements are compatible isn't cool. Neither is spending even more to replace the engine after it burnt itself out on a barely hour and a half long journey at highway speeds. (No, I can't believe... (more)

This is the luxury edition of the Olds 88. Not only does it have leather seats, automatic windows, seats, locks, but wood grain on dash to give it a classy look. The car looks fabulous, especially when it was new, but the best part about it is that is keeps going and going and going. It has over 250,000 miles on it and is still running great! It has been a very dependable car, with only minor repairs done through the years, such as brake pads, oil changes and such.
Historia
I have used this car in recent months to bring home "finds" for my grandchildren. With its large trunk, it will fit almost anything inside, and what I cannot fit in the trunk will normally get in the backseat. It must be happy making little ones happy.
A Favor
The most positive thing about this car is how long it has lasted. It has so many miles on it, yet runs like a dream! The seats are so comfortable, and it has a lot of space for holding drinks, including a pull-down console in the back seat. It runs quietly, with little or no rattles, even with its age. My father bought this car for my mother right before he died, making sure she'd have a reliable vehicle to use. She sold it to us later on in her life, and we've traveled all over creation in it. Trustworthy is the word I would use for this car.
En Contra
The only negative about this car is that I don't care for how the vents work. They don't move or close the way I would like them to. They have put out the heat and the air conditioning fine, though, even if I don't like the way they work, they still worked.

This vehicle is okay for the short term. I acquired this vehicle for very cheap, and I am on a very tight budget. It has low miles, and it drives very well. However, the body is hideous. It has not aged well. It was a luxury car during its time, but now it is just so outdated. It's not a terrible car, and it takes me where I need to go, but once I can afford a new car I'm getting rid of this thing.
Historia
I do like driving this car at night on back roads. That way, no one can see the type of car I'm driving.
A Favor
This car has a very smooth ride, and it's extremely easy to drive. There are practically no blind spots. Everything that needs to work, works. It has all the basic features that you need, e.g. Power windows, power locks, radio... It is also pretty reliable. All in all, it does its job.
En Contra
My major gripe with this car is its body. It looks like a boat. Also, it can drive like a boat too. It can feel very bulky. Another thing is that is has two separate keys to open and start the car. This is infuriating. It takes 4 times as long to get into the car and start it than with a standard car with a key fob unlock. This is so annoying. The major cons are the body and the fact that it has two separate keys.
