Low miles, modest luxury, high maintenance.
To me, this iteration of the 88 model represents Olds' last days as a "classy" if dated marque. It's a relatively simple car, with a few subtle touches (such as stimulated wood grain - totally high brow back in the day) that bump it squarely into the middle class, middle market bracket Olds traditionally occupied. However, 'the under the hood' components unfortunately are showing their age.

The car that lasts and lasts
This is the luxury edition of the Olds 88. Not only does it have leather seats, automatic windows, seats, locks, but wood grain on dash to give it a classy look. The car looks fabulous, especially when it was new, but the best part about it is that is keeps going and going and going. It has over 250,000 miles on it and is still running great! It has been a very dependable car, with only minor repairs done through the years, such as brake pads, oil changes and such.

Functional but not Showy
I don't care for the car's style, I am a young person in my 20s and the car looks like it should be owned by someone over 50. Apart from that, the car's general appearance has grown on me, I like seeing it as I approach it to use it. The car is comfortable as a driver, passenger, and backseat passenger. The car is very spacious. My wife and I joke about it being our second apartment, and how we always have to reach so much further inside it. The trunk also has plenty of room. Of the cars I have owned it is the most quiet inside while driving on the freeway. The blind spots are not as bad as our other car. Apart from a few things like the shocks that have needed to be replaced since when I bought it, the car has required little maintenance. The fuel economy isn't terrific, only 20 mpg. It takes a little time to get used to driving it due to its size. At first it feels like I'm taking up too much of the lane. Once I got used to that, it's a little fun to drive because it is more powerful than my previous cars, probably because it's my first 6-cylinder. The braking is good. Handling is bad, I think because of my shocks. When taking a curve on the freeway it tends to rock a little which requires holding the steering wheel steady. However, as long as I don't drive aggressively I do feel safe and in control while driving it.
