I own a 2012 Subaru Impreza Sport Premium. I have had absolutely zero issues with this vehicle in my first 45,000 miles. It handles PA winters like a dream. When most cars are struggling to get around I can take my Sub up the steepest hills with little to no issue. Gas mileage has been great overall. 2012 Was the first year of the Impreza redesign and it has been raved about by consumers and professional reviewers alike. I had to wait several months for mine just because it was so in demand when I bought it! You wont regret this purchase.

On several occasions I have had family members get stuck in the winter weather in luxury cars that cost 3 time what I paid for my Sub. They really are workhorses in the snow!
A Favor
Heated seats are a dream in the winter AWD means never getting stuck Subaru`s continually variable transmission means low maintenance and better gas mileage. Still has a sporty feel, can whip around corners and turn on a dime. Great storage space! Dog loves it!
En Contra
Occasional cabin noise at higher speeds. Stock tires wore out very quickly.

I have the 2012 five-door Impreza, the hatchback. I'm pretty pleased with it overall. Even though it is compact, it seems spacious on the inside. There is a lot of foot space in both the front and back seats, and there is a lot of cargo space. Handling is pretty good as well. It feels pretty zippy and sporty. Being lower to the ground, I feel a lot of the car. I got the car because of the AWD, and I think it performs well in the snow. It certainly beats the Camry (my previous car,) in snow and ice. The fuel economy is not amazing, but that is to be expected because of the AWD. I drive pretty extensively for work, and it has already got more than 100k miles on it. Historia
I off-roaded this car a tiny bit in Vermont one winter. It really isn't an off-road car so much as a 'driving onto a snow dusted farm' car, but I thought that was pretty cool. I like driving a lot with this car. We've driven up and down the East Coast together, and he's been on the beach, up a mountain, and through a lot of biggish puddles with me. Good times.
A Favor
Small, zippy, and light. Good with snow and ice. Low to the ground. I feel fast, even though I'm not speeding too much. There is a lot of sitting room and cargo space. Sort of like Narnia in a wardrobe. Fuel economy is not great but not awful. Routine maintenance isn't insanely complicated and expensive. It is supposed to last quite a bit.

It really does drink motor oil. Subaru says it isn't a big problem, but it certainly is a bit annoying. The book says change oil and filter at 6k miles. Sometimes the light turns on at <3k. Not a total deal breaker but annoying sometimes. There is a bit of a transmissions issue. SOA is offering extended warranty and reimbursing past repairs so that is nice. Hope they fixed everything, because this one is actually a bit irritating. I'm anticipating a head gasket change since those tend to fail at around 100k.
