The Honda Element fits into compact parking spaces yet feels so roomy on the inside. It has plenty of head room and easily accommodates my 6'5" spouse. He has even commented that the leg room is better than most other vehicles. The interior is also pretty rugged with limited fabrics. The only downside to the interior is there are 4 seats, so for groups of 5 they are out of luck. The two back seats can be folded up or even removed if additional cargo room is needed. We have a 4 wheel drive version and have taken this little thing out into gravel and dirt roads, including pretty steep ones. The only downside to adventuring is it has pretty low clearance. I wouldn't call myself well versed in car performance but I know this car has ran well for me with minor maintenance issues. I... (more)
Story
We took off driving into some forest service areas, so dirt rocks and rocky roads. We were out there with Jeeps and trucks who we pictured to would tell their buddies they went out "4 wheeling" and "rock crawling" over the weekend ... with a lowly Honda.

Cons
-Only 4 seats. -Low clearance.

The Element has been a great car. It has had little to no mechanical problems outside of normal maintenance. The ability to remove the backseats allows for plenty of cargo room. The only downside is that the rear seats are a little uncomfortable on long trips.
Story
We were taking a long road trip and removed the rear seats to create a bed area for our dog. I don't think he had ever been happier to get into the car. With a few pillows and his blanket it was hard to get him out!
Pros
The cargo space and ability to remove the rear seats have been great for day to day. I have had almost no maintenance issues, which has helped lower the cost of ownership greatly. The front seats are fairly comfortable, and it gets good gas mileage.
Cons
It is a box-shaped car, so when travelling in windy areas, it can be a fight to control the car. The rear seats sit a bit higher so you don't see much and with no real rear windows it can get a bit stuffy. The floors are lined with a rubber/plastic material and when they have been freshly cleaned, can be a bit slippery.
