I just want to point out that even if the Odyssey has its flaws, it is still a great van. Avoid the 2001-2003 models unless you can verify the transmission has been rebuilt/replaced. There was a defect in them that caused it to slip or outright fail. Mine did both but, after rebuilding at 90,000 miles, hasn't been a problem since. The interior is very comfortable and the AC is still going strong after 15 years. There are plenty of little features that make this a very versatile van: the rear bench folds down into a well to leave the back flooring flat, 9 cup holders, comfortable seats, rear AC/heat control, plenty of cargo room, overhead lights for almost every seat, and more. The engine is rock solid and strong enough to pull a light trailer. If you fold the rear bench down and take t... (more)
Story
This is an amazing car for a drive-in movie theater! The middle row seats can be removed and used outside the car for super comfortable seats, and the rear row can be tilted backwards all the way to create seats facing out the rear hatch of the van!
Pros
It only gets about 17-18 mpg in the city and on the highway can still get 24, which seems alright for a 15 year old car. There's not much that could be done to make the cargo and carrying capacity any better, unless you just make the whole van bigger. The rear well area provides plenty of cargo room with the seats in place. There isn't much this van can't fit in the back. The 3.6L V6 engine lives up to the Honda reliability that they're known for.
Cons
The transmission is a known failure point. The LX model of this van only comes with a tape deck radio and weak speakers, but that was about normal for base models when it was new. As stated above, the city fuel economy is less than 20. The sliding doors can also be a cause of problems and costs. The rollers that hold the doors to the tracks can sometimes deteriorate and crack, causing the door to get caught and not operate smoothly. In my experience, it will still function but not very well. The "door closed" switches on the sliding doors have also been a problem for me in the past and hav... (more)
