I inherited this vehicle from my parents. I came to college, and needed something to transport me short distances. This vehicle is very good at that. In the past, it had some huge issues (completely dying in a construction zone on the freeway, a few accidents, lack of AC in AZ summer...), But I've had no troubles while I've had it. It's not pretty; the hood is spray painted black, some of the automatic windows won't roll down, and a few people have vomited in it, but Black Betty does her job. The sun roof is really nice to have open during the summer, but I live in Colorado, and the middle windows will ice over which creates a huge blind spot. Sometimes she makes noises, and she sure struggles to get up hills, but she always makes it to the top. I love the amount of people she can tran... (more)
Title
Black Betty was our main transportation vehicle for getting to parties. Everyone knew that she could fit the entire group of friends, no problem. Everyone wanted to drive her because she was the coolest of the cool. I once picked up two friends who were vomiting on the side of the road. I was literally stopping to let them through up out of the side doors of the van every thirty seconds. Final... (more)
Pros
- She's fit up to fifteen people, with full-sized bat bags. That's a ton of strength. -Actually, really fun to drive -Good at picking up friends who get stuck in jail overnight. -Has a mirror that comes out with the push of a button which is good for inti

the engine seized in under 100K miles. had terrible options. ac never really worked well. seats were not comfortable. the seats were incredibly difficult to move. working on the car never really went well. we had many issues with this car. there was always something wrong with it. we would try to fix everything but something else would always go wrong with it. it handled horribly as well and was not very good in snow. it got stuck many times and was not easy to get out.
Title
it was fun replacing the engine with my dad.
Pros
there were not too many things that were positive about this vehicle. the only reason we got it was because it was the only car we could afford. it was very spacious and did allow a lot of people to be inside at the same time. stains did come out kind of well in the car. the fabric was pretty good about that. it was decently forgiving when it came to spills or dirt and mud and such on them. it was not too difficult to clean up after kids or family and road trips.
Cons
EVERYTHING, pretty much was a negative. the engine was atrocious. it was an absolute wreck. sensors and parts went bad on this engine constantly. we had to do an entire engine swap because it had seized and would not move. it was always getting stuck in the snow and required shoveling out. the tires wore unevenly even when everything was balanced and was perfect alignment. the body panels were very thin as well. they would show every dent and everything. it was very easy to damage this car.

This vehicle was an absolute disaster for me and my family. It was based on the same Nissan van, and used their engine in Mercury. The engine had decent performance, but it's reliability was not there at all. After only 60k miles it blew the head gasket on the engine, causing major repair. The handle snapped off on the sliding door on the driver side. Overall, the van looked good, but the quality in the build was not there to support it.
Title
The funnest story I have of this car was when it was towed away.
Pros
The engine performance (when it ran) was surprising, especially with torque. The van had no problem when it came to acceleration. The dual sliding doors in the back were a bit new to see during that time period, so those were very nice too.
Cons
Some of the most negative parts of this car was the build quality. It was blood awful, and piss poor. The transmission was poor as well, the armrests bent with little weight on them.
